Further Thoughts on Geffen Hall

Yesterday was my 2nd visit to Geffen Hall and I continue to be impressed.

In a previous thread, someone had posted that they weren't happy with the new lobby but yesterday's cold temperatures had more people rushing indoors and we found the large number of sofas led us to easy conversations and even sharing a few laughs while we sipped our coffee or wine. This would not have been the case if her were just standing there waiting for the house to open.

This time I sat in the partierre section (behind the orchestra) and it was magnificent. I was surrounded by sound and it was all crystal clear thanks to the sensational accoustics in the new theater.

I'm getting used to the muti-gendered bathrooms.

During our conversation yesterday someone commented that the pronections that were running on the big movie screen should have been changed to a cozy scene of a working fireplace. It would have psychologically warmed us up.

Carnegie Hall may have the reputation for outstanfing acoustics, but Geffen Hall reall has them now.

During my upcoming trip in March I have one evening open where I can choose between seeing Norma at the Met with Sonya Yoncheva or the NY Phil is playing Messiaen's Turangalila-symphonie which I know nothing about? That is after crossing some "juke box musicals" & a couple plays off my list

Most of the time you can find obscure music on YouTube. Also, the Philharmonic usually has at least samples of the score on their website. However, if you do decide to attend a concert, opt for the partierre seating which will put you behind the orchestra but in the middle of the sound.
