I Judy/Liza would have been nice, but at the right time, Judy couldn't have handled doing 8 shows a week. That was getting close to the end for her but I think THAT would have made an AMAZING film version. It really would have been legendary really.
As for Audra, well I'm sure SOMEONE was thinking this but to say she doesn't have a belt is highly in accurate. There's recorded stuff out there to support that. She doesn't often use her belt is the problem with her as Rose. All the keys would prob need to be lowered so she felt comfortable and safe belting that much 8 times a week. I also agree that she would be miscast. I LOVE her but she's not Rose. Too bad because she would rip Rose's Turn a new one in the act dept.

How about someone like Rosie O'Donnell....
Now before you all beat the crapola out of me... She so desperately loves theater and really is not a singer (a bit off pitch) and she would be perfect casting if she could do it seriously. I mean think about it.. The part has an almost Norma Desmond quality about it it tearms of passion about something that she really has not talent to bring.

O'Donnell would be a travesty. I just can't see it. The thing I loved so much about Bernadette's Rose was her oddly dying voice. She had it, but she just couldn't keep it.
Rosie doesn't have it. And she wouldn't fool anyone into thinking she does.

"Audra is just too etherial."
ehhhh I don't think ethereal's the right word, though I see where you're headed.
