GMF's CATERED AFFAIR review !

Posted: 4/13/08 at 2:40amOk, guys, you know how much I respect everyone's opinion, but I really can't understand how can anyone be bored with A CATERED AFFAIR !!! There is so much talent on that stage and so much substance and elegance on that stage !!! I was not that crazy about the score, but it is truly a show that Broadway needs, in order to have some balance, between flashy big shows and small, intimate, but so well-written ones ! It's a breeze of fresh air and i loved it ! 8 out of 10

Posted: 4/13/08 at 2:52amI so agree with you. People should give it a chance and go and see it as something new and different. It certainly is different and deserves a long run on Broadway and a few awards esp to the wonderful Faith Prince. Its not your happy happy song and dance musical so go in with an open mind and give it a go. I adored it and look forward to my next visit.

I thought the show was well done. The score was at times mundane but at other times, it was perfect for the scene. I thought the performances were really good. I was starting to wonder what the hell Tom Wopat was doing in this part for most of the play and then I realized why. He really pulled it out towards the end. Faith was wonderful and moving. Harvey can do no wrong in my eyes. He is a legend!!!!!

Thanks GMF!
Glad to hear some good word of mouth...
I really want to see this, hopefully I'll make it this summer. From what I'm hearing, it could use one or two fun songs...
But hey, what do you expect when you combine John Bucchino and John Doyle?
Very excited to see this, nonetheless, especially for the performances!

Posted: 4/13/08 at 10:34pmYes, I agree that it could have used a lively number, at least in the first half hour or so. As the play moves along and deals with many emotional issues, the score heightens the story and the songs are appropriate. I had never seen a show like this and as each day has passed since I've seen it, I realize how much I have thought about it and would like to see it again. I suppose that, for me, this is a true test of whether or not a show is good.

Posted: 4/13/08 at 11:02pmI saw it Friday night and agree with GMF. Tom Wopat was not feeling well, but from what I could tell, it did not diminish his performance. Solid book, direction, & cast. I enjoyed the music and felt that it advanced the plot; but none of the melodies stayed in my mind.

would inserting a lively number be appropriate to this story? I dont think so. Would you insert a random madcap comic scene into Death of a Salesman? Just to liven things up?
I would hope not.
