Godspell is based on the book of Matthew. The opening has always compared him to the great philosophers. However, because it was the 1970s, he is portrayed more as a good natured hippie hanging out with his friends.
In the show, the John the Baptist and Judas characters are combined. He is betrayed by Judas. I think the threatening of power structures is more JCS.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
