I think it was the critics, not the thread. We didn't ask them to trash the show.

"Welcome to the Club" used to be my worst Broadway musical ever. It held the title for years.
Until yesterday. This production of "Godspell" is the most horrifingly awful thing I've ever seen on Broadway. I nearly jumped out of my seat to slap the actors.

I'm probably going to be shot down for this... but I finally saw it last night and remembered this thread and felt the need to bump it... I absolutely LOVED it. It was one of the most enjoyable nights at the theatre I've had this season.
*Side note, Darren Criss was sitting in front of and seemed to love it. He even shouted out to Telly at the top of act two...

As a long time reader of this thread and a Godspell fan, I kept my voice silent until I saw it last week.
I have to say - this revival is not worth all the flack it's been getting. It's quite enjoyable in parts, and I really loved some of the arrangements (Beautiful City, anyone?!) while other parts of it (Tower Of Babble, Finale - and the lack of "clown" costumes) were to be desired. I thought there was a lot of talent behind it, and I do think it's a fun time at the theatre. Is it an innovative piece of theatre? No. Is it worth seeing? I think so, and since I saw Hunter's u/s, might even see it again.

It got decent-ish reviews. I think the problems with Godspell have always been there. People always point them out when there is a new production, but it still has an established following. I feel like this show isn't really attempting to be "high art" but more of an enjoyable time. Anyways, since when has a Stephen Schwartz musical received raves? Check the scores on Curtain Critic (It scored higher than Wicked!):
