You don't need to write hundreds of words on how great Guarini is. We get it- you really like him. And there really hasn't been a giant outcry against him; I pointed out myself that he got very good reviews. I don't care that he got cast.
I have no idea what a "joke box musical" is, so maybe you'd better ignore the crazy weirdo who wants to talk about 'em.
we can't change what shows are produced and if u don't like the shows out there then write your own and become a producer and writer! lol Sure we can. We can buy tickets to what we like and encourage others to do the same, and vice versa. And the "you can't criticize if can't do it" argument is unbelievably trite.
To make things clear, I love the music of the Beach Boys. (And I'm young, too. Whodathunkit?) But what I was trying to point out is that unlike (most) showtunes, the songs of that band are associated with the singers who first performed them- the Beach Boys themselves. You can have different versions, but you'd better do a damn good job if you're going to charge $100, and preferably give me something I don't get from my CDs. Judging from the example of
Mamma Mia!, all we're really going to get is a sort-of imitation of the original thing. I'd rather listen to my copy of
Pet Sounds, thanks, and use my Broadway money to go to a real musical.
