Posted: 2/13/05 at 1:30pmWho is everyone counting on for the Best Show Album award? Wonderful Town, The Boy from Oz, Wicked, Assassins, or Avenue Q? My vote goes to OZ.

While that is a very difficult choice...I'm going to have to say Wicked...and NO, I'm not one of the fanatics.
But what exactly are the listening for when the listen to the soundtracks?

Posted: 2/13/05 at 1:34pmugh. i hate the package of the new assassins. it's so cumbersome and the cd including all those monologues. i pretty much loathe it. in my dream world wonderful town would win because i think that cd is pretty marvelous. but since grammy voters will be stupid they'll probably go for one of the oz shows.

I think Boy from Oz will win because Phil Ramone is a producer well-known to the rest of the industry. Keep in mind that most of the voters are in Nashville and Los Angeles.
Caroline, or Change should win, but they didn't even have enough sense to nominate it, so my vote goes to Avenue Q.

Posted: 2/13/05 at 1:37pmI definitely agree that Caroline should have been nominated..and would have won. And while I LOVE the Q cd...I don't see it winning, it just seems really simplistic.

Posted: 2/13/05 at 1:46pmdo they even show the winner's for best musical album? normally, they don't televise every category, only the big ones like best album and such.

Posted: 2/13/05 at 2:21pmWkd recording is ok. Not GREAT. ASSASSINS was brilliant but the point bout the votes is well taken. I hear the "Q"sters are capagning again. Hope there last little foray explodes in their faces!

Loyal Q-Tip here.
Just please reassure me that there's no possible way they're going to show this category on TV. I could not care less about anything else on the Grammys, and I don't really want to run a tape for 3+ hours on the outside chance that they might mention/show anything Q-related.

Posted: 2/13/05 at 2:53pmim gonna say wicked. no they dont televise it, however, near the end of the program they will recap what the didnt show...if that makes sense
#15re: GRAMMYs TONIGHT!
Posted: 2/13/05 at 2:55pmWicked will win. Even though the producer of The Boy From Oz is well known in the recording industry, you'd have to be stupid to never have heard of Wicked.

No they don't broadcast this category, but at some point during the evening, coming back from or going into a commercial, they will be showing the winners in the "minor" categories like best Engineered Polka recording with vocal (traditional) or Best Gospel intrumental performance with vocalist (Contemporary, non-country) and they will flash a card with "Best Original Cast Recording-Wicked" on it.
No one even knows what they are looking for in these awards any more. Is it to recognize the show, the score, the recording, the performances? I used to watch the Grammys faithfully year after year. But they really are meaningless.....

"you'd have to be stupid..."
Keep in mind these are the same people who named Milli Vanilli Best New Artist and Jethro Tull Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. Anything's possible.

I wish that were the extent of the Grammy's stupity, but it's the tip of the iceberg....The Beatles losing best New Artist to the Anita Kerr Singers (exactly)...Peter Gabriel winning for Best New Age Performance....The Atlanta Symphony signing up the entire orchestra and voting themselves every single classical award...Paul Simon winning "Record of the Year" twice in a row for "Graceland"...
