GREASE!

I just saw the three o'clock performance of Grease today and I thought it was absolutely fantastic! I was skeptical about the whole finding the leads from a television show, but I really thought they did great. My favorite was Jenny Powers, who played Rizzo. To me she absolutely stole the show. I thought it was really really well done and it was so much fun, I just left feeling so happy. Has anyone else seen it yet? I know today was the first day of the actual show, no more previews... and what a great opening it was :)

Yeah but what did you think of that curtain of the school??
I mean, Denzel Washington? Gun to my head..of course.

re: GREASE!

I thought it was tacky... Actually I thought most of the sets were pretty tacky. Like the dance scene, but then I thought maybe they were supposed to be tacky?

re: GREASE!

The choreography in the Grease revival is horrendous. I have never been so embarassed for the people on stage as I was when I watched this show. I would like my money back and the two hours of my life I wasted watching this.

This show is not that hard to choreograph, but Kathleen Marshall completely failed. I had to look down several times because I could not watch all the bad dancing and arm movements.

It was painful

It was so great you just joined today to tell us?

Must be pretty awesome.

re: GREASE!

Hold up. You're telling me that they did a 3:00 pm show on opening day? Say what? I find it very hard to believe that they did a two-show day on opening night.

re: GREASE!

Actually no. Ive been a member here for about three years now, under a different name. Stopped posting for awhile and just kind of read the boards, and decided to change my name today about 5 minutes ago. I thought it would be nice to see what other people thought of a show that just opened. I realize its not the most well done show ever, but its fun. And I agree the dancing was bad, I guess I just enjoyed the whole vibe of the show I kind of put the bad things out of my mind.

Yes they did a 3 show and a 730 show.
"I find it very hard to believe that they did a two-show day on opening night." Do you think I'm lying about seeing it at 3:00?

re: GREASE!

NYTimes and Variety panned it! Called it worse than a musical put on by a non-musical high school! OUCH! But with $15 million in pre-sales I'm sure Kathleen could care less it's crap!
Is it just me or do others see the trend of "OMG! It was SOOO GOOD...well, this and that weren't great...but it was SOOO GOOD!" Somehow I just can't take these posts seriously when you contradict yourselves so much! Come on people, you either liked it or you didn't.

re: GREASE!

It's possible to like a show, but still have a few comments here and there about certain design aspects and what not. If it weren't then there would be hardly anything that I actually liked.

re: GREASE!

Lately, with new shows on Broadway, I find myself saying something like "Oh I didn't like the show overall,I hated this and this and this. But on the bright side, this and this were good."

"Do you think I'm lying about seeing it at 3:00?"

No, I thought you may have just made a typo. My bad. I have never heard of a show doing two performances on opening night.

re: GREASE!

It's interesting. It seems like I've seen several "new" members who join to post something about Grease in particular. Maybe you have been a member under a different name, but why change your name and start posting about Grease. It comes across as strange. I'm just saying.

re: GREASE!

Personally, I loved this show! It was really fun, and I don't have any actual complaints. My only iffy opinion is that the sets were a little corny, but they worked. I actually saw it twice, that is how much I enjoyed it.

re: GREASE!

My old name was outdated, it had X's and O's in it. I changed it to this because it was my screen name, and it just happened to be about Grease beacuse that is the show I saw most recently.
