Posted: 1/28/07 at 7:06pmWas just told the GREASE revival will have songs that were added for the film. Wasn't told which ones, however.

Posted: 1/28/07 at 7:10pmwhile i kind of like the idea of casting a show using a reality tv program, i wonder do we really need another grease? the most recent revival closed less than 10 years ago. aren't there other new or rarely produced works that would be better?

Again...old news.

Posted: 1/28/07 at 7:29pmI loved the new Sandy song in the 94 revival, I hope they keep that one, too!

Posted: 1/28/07 at 10:54pmI can almost guarantee that "Since I Don't Have You" (which was new to Grease!, but not at all an unknown song) will not be in this revival. Mostly because it's more associated with the 1994 revised script version and because "Hopelessly Devoted to You" is listed on Broadway.com as being one of the songs from the movie that is going to be used on stage. I can't see Sandy singing both. Having said that I do adore Susan Wood's "Since I Don't Have You".

Posted: 1/28/07 at 11:02pmI love "Since I don't have you." I always felt like "You're The One That I Want," needs to be in the show.

Posted: 1/28/07 at 11:12pmI'm sure that one will be "You're the one that I want" replacing "All Chocked Up". "You're the one that I want" is also the name of the show, so it does make sense.

I donno... not that I care much about Grease but all of the songs written for the movie are so NOT 50's. Hopelessly Devoted to You... Sandy (Alone at the Drive-In Movie is SO much beter).. All Choked Up (not a great song but at least it's not ridiculously 70's like You're the One That I Want).
I would, however, expect a complete re-mount of the London revival here.

Grease on the West End in 1993 used songs from the movie, and actually were quite effective in doing so. I particularly enjoy their version of "Grease is the Word," and the transition into that song.

Posted: 1/28/07 at 11:21pmI agree "Hopelessly Devoted to You" has Disco written all over it!

hopelessly devoted to you is far from "disco".
do you even know what a disco song sounds like?
hopelessly devoted sounds like a pop/country song in the vein of olivia's previous hits like "have you never been mellow" and "please mr. please".
it's also very reminiscent of those slow country ballads sung by the likes of patsy cline in the 1950s , it is anything *but* disco!

Posted: 1/29/07 at 7:18amOne of the long-standing problems for the licensing company has been folks wanting to use the songs from the movie -- I worked on a production in Iowa that tried desperately to get permission to use "Youre the One" and "Hopelessly Devoted" (Disco? HD? As if...). My guess is that the show's creators have caved to public demand and after this revival closes, those songs will be a permanent part of the rental script/score.

Just because a revival gets the rights to the movie songs doesn't mean they'll be licensed. After all, the London revival that used the movie's songs was in 1993 and they're still not licensed.
Samuel French never changes anything. They have terrible materials filled with mistakes and if you correct them they'll just charge you for not erasing. Why any musical team would let Sam French handle the licensing is beyond me.

Posted: 1/29/07 at 9:58amSam French is also very good at sending bills for productions that were never done. Just ask for a royalty quote and 6 months later you're getting invoices from them. They are a mess.

Yes, this is old news, I read this from a press release:
"The new production will not be a revival of the original show, but a staged version of the film, which deleted some of the stage production’s songs and added three new ones: "Grease Is The Word", “Sandy,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” and “You’re the One that I Want."
This is fromt he NBC site:
"The new Broadway production will feature the Jacobs-Warren Casey songs made famous by the original musical, including "Summer Nights," "Greased Lightning" and "We Go Together" as well as the four additional film songs "Grease is the Word," "You're the One That I Want," "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "Sandy" interpolated into the score."

Posted: 1/29/07 at 10:33amWell, since the name of the show is called YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT, and that wasn't in the show, I pretty much figured that one out for myself.
