The whole "I ONLY pay full price! How could I not pay full price for HAMILTON?!" argument is so holier than thou and out of touch with the millions of Americans who can't afford these prices!! I feel like you all would be hating on the ticket sales if it was for a show you all didn't like... Just saying.....But whatever.... I'm the enemy here...

Or it's because you're so obsessed with the show not failing but are unwilling to support the show by actually buying a ticket that's not discounted.

I genuinely don't follow whatever you're talking about at this point.

I genuinely have no clue what what you're saying. If you've bought tickets to Hamilton, you've only paid full price or won the lottery, which is still paying full price. You asked me how many times I've paid full price to see Hamilton and I paid that price both time. The only reason I suggested you pay full price was because you've stated more than once that you're worried about ticket sales and it flopping. By not buying a ticket, you're contributing to the poor ticket sales. Stop worrying about bad ticket sales and then complaining about the lack of a discount code. Sorry to all the other board members for this.

No need to apologize. We know Skimbleshanks2 does not listen to reason. This has been going on for quite some time, but good for you for trying.

Um. I flew to London to see GROUNDHOG DAY... I paid full price and I will again on broadway. I was asking because my family is coming to town and I can't afford full price tickets because my husband didn't get his bonus. ARE YOU HAPPY????

so matilda won best score? usually the most "unbland score" (is unbland a word?) would easily win a tony award for music. Did it win? if not who did it lose out to?
matilda has some pretty bland songs. hammer, my house, miracle is fairly awful, knock on the door, phys ed is banal.
the only good songs in matilda are naughty, Quiet and When i grow up. The rest are inflated patter songs and bland songs. remember this is my opinion..its not a universal truth.

what if.. maybe lightning doesn't strike twice? not everyone is an Andrew Lloyd Webber or a Sondheim or a Leonard Bernstein.

Indeed, lightning does not strike twice.
Especially without a strong book, which Matilda had, and GHD does not. Just my opinion.

This is clearly opinion, as you say, but I found the score of Kinky Boots to be far more generic and less memorable than that of Matilda. I strongly suspect that some politics factored into the decision that year - a huge star who is also a gay icon and wrote an LGBT-friendly show would have a bit of a head-start going into the race. So, no, I wouldn't expect the least bland score, or even the best score, to always win the Tony of that name.

Is there some reason the assumption is they are not changing the book or music from the UK and we are getting that without a single change?

There has been no indication that they had any intention of changing anything after Brantley's review.

Which also means there has been no indication that they aren't changing it for Broadway... I mean, surely there were some things they wanted to fix during the limited West End run, but couldn't get to in time...

i was being sarcastic. Matilda has a much better score (IMO) than the horribly bland kinky boots. I still find Matilda's score to be average again except for Naughty, Quiet and When i grow up. I mean that opening number is just awful.

That "are" was clearly meant to be "aren't." Literally.

You would think... heh. But I changed it in the original post for the context-averse. ![]()

I am FINALLY starting to see advertisements for GROUNDHOG DAY other than the desperate Instagram posts from ORFEH KARL.......I hope this sells...But I'm still worried...What if this doesn't sell???
I bought my tickets... Full price.... It was a bit of a financial struggle but I have to support ANDY KARL... My husband and I are trying to buy a house so it's tense but... If I go again I'll use the code...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If they don't run some sort of promotion next week, they should give it up.

I can't believe they aren't starting previews next Thursday. It's mind boggling.

I don't agree with you on all of those songs but I do think Matilda doesn't have the strongest overall score. The Miss Honey songs were the ones that stood out to be as average attempts at musical theater storytelling songs that didn't fit as well with the rest of the material. I like Tim Minchin's comedy and his songs for his own act. But as an overall score, I think Sara Bareilles' work for Waitress was much more effective.
