Ah yes... I agree. I take it back- that Tony is Ben Platts.
I bet Christian Borle is really wishing he wasn't giving his Willy Wonka this year! Best Actor and Actress in a musical is going to be a fierce competition.

Yes, I'm sure two time Tony Award winner Christian Borle is absolutely tearing himself apart over the misfortune of having to originate a leading role in a big budget Broadway musical because of the other productions opening this season.
It'll indeed be a good year for Best Actor. As of now, heavy hitters include Karl, Platt, Borle x2, Groban, and Hyde Pierce.
Yeah okay... I saw ANDY KARL in London... It's a huge, epic, brilliant performance... He deserves all the awards that will hopefully come his way!!! SUCH a great role for such a TALENT!
On another note... anyone know if GROUNDHOG DAY will be getting a discount code anytime soon? Would love to use one for me and my husband... Thanks ...

Well all of Broadway is obsessed with Tony Awards so surely when a actor plays a role like this, someone of his abilities, you'd kinda be hoping to add another Tony to your mantelpiece.
Is GROUNDHOG DAY not selling??? I just looked at Ticketmaster and ENTIRE MEZZANINES are open for a lot of nights ... Must say, with premium seats being $375 (thanks, HAMILTON!) and last row being $99, I can't say I'm surprised...
But ... WILL THIS FLOP? I'm worried about ANDY KARL...
It doesn't start performances for nearly FOUR months. Has there been any ad campaign yet? (I'm not in NY)
Premium seats are not thanks to Hamilton.
Right... they're just magically $375 apropos of HAMILTON....
And you'd think given the hype and familiarity of the movie people would be buying tickets...But they're not...
The Producers started premium seating....and nearly every show since then has followed suit. You can't blame them for trying.
HAVE they started an ad campaign?

What hype? There's no hype related to the 25 year old movie... did you mean hype related to the show? Because they haven't even started advertising, really. Also, just because it's familiar doesn't mean anyone is itching to see it. Look at Big Fish, Rocky, Honeymoon in Vegas, Doctor Zhivago, and many others.
There have been lots of ads in the Times, but that hardly equates to much nowadays.
Why do producers put seats up for sale without starting an ad campaign or at least one that can sell the show?
I live in NYC and am up to date on theater knowledge, and haven't seen much about this show, yet. So I'm not surprised regarding ticket sales. I think it will do well though. I look forward to seeing a big, splashy new musical. Feel like Bandstand, In Transit, and A Bronx Tale are going to be long forgotten come Tony time.
Why would bandstand be forgotten? It's supposed to be the last show to open this season
I'm just glad it's not the same woman who played Rita in London. She was terrible!
Fantastic that they cast Rita with a black actress. She is quite beautiful as well. Also, although she did an understudy stint in You Can't Take It With You, this is her Broadway debut as a full cast member. Good for her, and good for the creative team.
It still doesn't look like it's selling.... Will there be a bigger push starting FEBRUARY 2ND??? I'm so worried about ANDY KARL and GROUNDHOG DAY being a FLOP!!!

Geez Skimble can you just calm down??! This show is not opening for another 2 months. It will sell out if it's a good show. I'm an Andy Karl fan but I haven't been checking tickets yet! I do plan to watch this show in my next NYC trip (May/June)
Sorry I've just been a bit of a mess lately... Husband drama... And now I see ANDY KARL will probably lose the Tony to BEN PLATT...
I JUST WANT THIS SHOW TO BE A HIT!!! And it's not selling ![]()
May I ask why you seem to have such a stake in this?
Their ad campaign is honestly atrocious so they're doing it to themselves.
i feel like every show this season have had less than stellar logos and marketing. Like incredibly boring logos or not enough information regarding what it is.
The ad just doesn't make it seem like a fresh, new, tech heavy show. Seems like a boring movie turned musical poster.
And ticket prices for this show are so high! I have bought over 15 tickets for my trip to NY in April/May, but I still haven't bought a ticket for this one. I also blame Ticketmaster's booking system that won't allow me to book a single ticket if there's seats next to it. Like if there's four seats in row F and I want to buy the first seat closest to the aisle of the four (just one ticket), it won't let me buy it because it says I can't leave a gap or a seat left by itself even though this is not the case because there might be 3, 4, 5, 6 tickets next to it. Has anyone had this same problem? It's not just with this show. It's with all Ticketmaster shows, so it's something with their system.
