While a clever idea, it won't catch on to the general public that type of advertising will reach. At least I don't think so.

Except no talk show will give them two spots, two days in a row, and how could they give the same tickets out more than once?
I don't pretend to know what they should do. Not being IN NY, I never know what a ad campaign is like until I"m in the city.

Excellent word of mouth? I saw it and it was bland. It was a good production of a bland show. The people who saw it with me didn't like it.
London taste is not the same as NYC taste and they have a lot less competition for musicals there. This thing is going to get swallowed up by the other musicals this year. Might be gone by labor day as DEH is winning that tony.

Regardless... Brian was responding to posters who are acting like there's no buzz or word of mouth. "
And I was responding to that claim. Just because there is buzz or word of mouth in another city or in certain circles doesn't mean there's a large audience for a show somewhere else. I'm not a psychic, so I don't know how Groundhog Day will fare once it's open. It's very possible that people will respond well and that it will become a hit once it's seen by American theatregoers. But to say that it'll have good word of mouth or strong ticket sales in New York just because it had those things in London is false. The two don't always go together. And we all know positive reviews don't always equal positive audience response and/or ticket sales either.

I find it close to inconceivable that Minchin is capable of writing something bland

If you're so scared about it flopping, buy full price tickets and support the show.

Twice? Not sure what you're getting at, but if you're wanting the show to succeed, the way to help that is by buying a full price ticket.

Interesting, I've never heard someone call that award-winning musical "bland."

It's called an opinion. And I'm sure many people have disliked award-winning scores.

The score of Matilda is pretty known for being one of the most unbland scores. Like how could someone call school song bland? Someone with that opinion must have extremely high standards who has seen no musical with a score that's not bland.

I'm not a huge fan of Matilda, but the score for Matilda is worlds better than Groundhog Day. I wouldn't have even guessed it's the same person if I hadn't already known.

Odd question, by why is Liza's Headband not active on the board anymore? Some of the snark on this thread made me miss them.
