I think the Gypsy/LuPone T-Shirt is as good as a button.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Well, all I'm gonna say is that Gypsy was the third time I dragged my dad to a Patti show and yet the first time he turned to me and asked "Does Patti LuPone have a big gay fanbase?"
I started cracking up.
Patti made me gay.
I'd go gay for Patti, but I don't think that's what we're talking about...

There's nothing hilarious about this. It's an accurate account of what the last performance was like. My son and daughter-in-law were with me and they couldn't get over the large number of gay men--and lesbians--who were in attendance.

But isn't that true for any Broadway show?

dollypop: accurate? did you and your son and daughter "run for the door" at the end of the performance?

All I can say is that Patti LuPone is responsible for the West Village. Just ask her.

We've always wondered Weez
A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

If only she performed EVITA the way she 'recorded' it on the American Premiere Recording, then things could have looked differently for me. Yes...what you hear on the EVITA recording is not the way she sang/performed it on stage nightly.
Gosh! I was wondering all these years if I was the only one who felt that way. Her performance onstage was completely different than on the recording. Onstage she took strange liberties with the tempos and phrasings. For the recording session I've always imagined that she was on her best behavior due to the fact that Webber was probably in the studio. For the recording she sang the role flawlessly without any self-indulgent tricks or LuPoneisms. She has constantly said that EVITA was a bad experience for her. And the two times I saw her in the role it bacame painfully obvious that she was not having a good time. How she got away with it I'll never know.

I'm a fan of Patti's, gay, hot, AND I was there on Sunday night. What do I win?

Does anyone find it odd that the OP hasn't responded? And that almost everything he's posted comes from queersighted.com?

I once emailed Miss Patti and asked her the question: "How come so many gay guys love you?" Her response was: "....you have taste." She's awesome to her fans... and very much recognizes that a major percentage of her fan base is from the gay community. from RC in Austin, Texas.. t.o.p.l.f.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Morosco, I didn't know that about Evita. I had tickets to see her in that show (front row no less), and she was out that night. I got to see Nancy Opel instead. I was kind of bummed because I spent $30 on that ticket (outrageous for a 16 year old in 1980).

Um, she is ALREADY a legend.

As per all the anti-Evita comments, LuPone admits that she was not doing a good job in Evita for months in the role, and it wasn't until a member of the chorus helped her work through all of her vocal problems in the show she was finally able to start performing the work comfortably.
It's all in an InnerViews video on Google Video. I highly recommend watching it. Such a fun and exciting one where she talks about all of her career.
