I just don't get the point of commenting on the sexuality of an audience. Bizarre!

What's so funny? Gay people went to see Patti in Gypsy? Oh wow, that's HILARIOUS.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

It would have been funnier if it had been a Kathy Griffin joke.

Though I don't like her as a performer, I do love her as a personality. She's a hoot and a riot, but is a one-trick-pony. As a young teen I saw her on Broadway in EVITA and find that everything she's done since then sounds just like EVITA material, due to her performance. She plays ALL her characters the exact same way AND she sings EVERYTHING the exact same way.
If only she performed EVITA the way she 'recorded' it on the American Premiere Recording, then things could have looked differently for me. Yes...what you hear on the EVITA recording is not the way she sang/performed it on stage nightly.

How did she sing it nightly, Brody?

yea, i have to admit: im not getting "hilarious" or "awesome" out of that, either.
in fact, i thought the bit from the daily news article was fairly homophobic -- "our spy" ... "i ran for the door?"
what is this -- 1956???
more sad than funny ...

Miss LuPone chose to 'scream' sing her way thru EVITA, which was annoying. I had listened to the American Premiere Recording endlessly prior to seeing the show on Broadway, and was totally thrown for a loop when I saw it 'live'. Mandy Patinkin and Bob Gunton were just as great as on the recording, but Patti...just one angry screaming bitch the entire performance.
On the recording she has the angry snarl but at least she 'sings' -- on stage, it was just screaming. There are tons of audio and video bootlegs that survive of her performance in EVITA to confirm all this.

"Nuanced performance?" Patti Lupone? Never thought I'd hear that stated in the same sentence.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

IMO, her performance in Sweeney Todd was quite nuanced. But, that's not what this thread is about, so back on topic.

This Sanford Marcus is a total idiot.

"They either love me or they hate me." Patti LuPone (guest starring on "Will and Grace".) Obviously, there will always be people who don't like Miss Patti for one reason or another. But there are a good number of people... many who happen to be gay... who just adore her! Some people tend to get a bit touchy,pc or lose their sense of humor.. when gays and Miss Patti are mentioned in the same sentence. I hope she does "Gypsy" in London and then goes back to NYC. I'll be there if and when she does on the Great White Way.

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

There were so many hot gays at the performances I saw.
I don't understand why there have been so many articles about the gays representin,' but I did love it.
