Not a Broadway show but with Broadway roots, "Galavant" premieres Sunday, January 4 on ABC. Reviews are coming in as many of you may have seen on Broadway World. They are mixed leaning towards "Good to see television trying something different but..."

I've had mixed feelings about the trailers and sneaks I've seen. The jokes are arch, "look at us having fun with this" and not all funny. But this is a very hard mixed genre to tackle, and I am thankful that they're doing a musical series on television. So I'll reserve judgement till I see the series. I'm curious about other BW board member thoughts.

Well, considering that the pitch of the show appears to be "a send-up of the super-serious medieval/fantasy drama genre so popular right now," tongue in cheek seems to be exactly what they're shooting for.
I'll be watching. Looks like it'll have some good Princess Bride kind of humor.
Eh, I'll pass. It looks like they're trying WAY too hard, and it's coming off as "Hey, look as US! Isn't this HILARIOUS????"

Agreed. Really dull, slow, and boring and the jokes aren’t that funny. They’re rather stupid. Like the Yo Mama jokes? It’s 14th century!

Did they seriously do their own version of the "Montage" song from Team America and South Park?!
UGH!?
I gave it 30 minutes as it was terribly difficult to watch hamming it up trying to be funny and the jokes falling flat didn't work for me but enjoy...

It seemed to be going for Robin Hood Men in Tights and less Princess Bride. Personally, I enjoyed it. It's ridiculous and campy and a good way to spend an hour on a Sunday evening. Though I think the guy who plays King Richard understands the sort of comedy the show was aiming for better than most of the cast (save for Sid and the chef).
I enjoyed it.
The main song is stuck in my head.
How could it not? They played it during every commercial LOL
Yeah...for each show they advertised. Catchy songs are catchy for a reason.
It's not even really the lyrics (except his name)...just the music. I'm humming it right now.
Did anyone else think the main number under like an uptempo version of "If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast? Of course, I was a fan of the music. just wish ithe show was a little funnier or unique.
