I recently saw "La Cage" (2nd time) and I thought Gary Beach's performance was better with Robert Goulet than it was with Daniel Davis. Was I imagining this or has anyone else noticed?

Yes, he's LIKE a legend, that Robert Gulier. Robert Goulet on the other hand, is actually a legend.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Yes, Gary's performance has changed a great deal since Davis has left and he has started playing every performance. I don't know what it is, but he really gets ZAZA now and when he comes out at the end as Albin in that suit you feel that sweetness you never felt before! Yes Goulet looks good, sounds wonderful, and it helps that he and Beach work so well together...but it is Gary who has worked hard and made changes that now shine on stage!

The Bob Goulet Special starring Robert Gulier.

Is Gary Beach still impersonating Nathan Lane? If he is, they just should have nominated the real thing from The Frogs.

I saw the show over the weekend to judge Goulet. I haven't posted a full review yet, but here are my bullet points:

1. Goulet is fabulous. Perfect for the role. Better than Davis.

2. To answer Riv's question: Yes, Beach is still impersonating Lane.

3. Goulet and Beach have a very sweet chemistry.

I <3 Gary Beach.
I thought he was great!

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.
