Did somebody mention pearls? pearl necklace? (Oh, that was last night...oh, poo. I missed it. Next time, then.)
I have a jam-packed day, but of course I'll stick my head in at the Duplex to see Robbiej with a couple of other hundred sweaty queens!

OK Kids!
Just wanted to give you a heads up about tomorrow and the Duplex. Although there is no cover for the cabaret space, there will be a cover to get into the bar itself. In years past, it's been $5. Not sure of the exact price, but can't imagine it being much more than that.
Didn't want you guys that want to show up to be surprised!
Much love and happy gay pride!

PS Eddie Varley and I will be doing a piece from the new show we're workshopping: Losing My Mind: The Self-Immolation of Tom Cruise.

So, Robbie, are you Oprah and does Eddie jump up and down on the bar screaming "I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!" ?

RobbieJ was one of the classiest and brilliantly funny hostesses I have ever had the pleasure of observing.
And his hubby, David Gurland- sang the hell out of Defying Gravity.
And then there's Eddie Varley...what more can be said about him really? Other than the fact that he's a brilliant and sweet man who I'm proud to know.
Well done RobbieJ! You rock!

Wow, what wonderful postitive vibes in this thread, as well they should be because yesterday was a delight!
Robbie had the entire crowd in the palm of his bejeweled hand the entire day, 7 HOURS of a-list comedy and song..he's truly an inspired master of performance, honest!
It's was very much a Robbiej weekend for lil' ol' mesa, we had the greatest time having a few drinks with Matthew Rask then all of us heading over to the uber talented Brandon Cutrell's Sondheim Fridays at the Duplex, where Robbie found new and exciting levels to "The Ladies Who Lunch"..then we were treated to Broadway's "Audrey2" Michael-Leon Wooley bringing that amazing voice of his to the stage. The night ended with Robbie and I doing our Tom Cruise-TODAY Show meltdown/Losing My Mind (which we improvised on the spot!) performance...to a cheering standing ovation from the crowd!
Next night it was time to revisit David Gurland's NEUROTICA for his one night only performance at the quite excellent Ace of Clubs...it's really one of the best evenings you'll spend in the city, Neurotica covers as many as twenty of Madonna’s hit songs from the early 80’s through the present. Award winning songwriter/singer/instrumentalist Michael Holland played guitar and piano and the night also featured Karen Mack (back-up vocals), Jerry Smith(percussion), David Boyd (back-up vocals) and Marco Brehm (bass), all of them connect to bring Madonna's music to new and really suprising levels...his "Frozen" is fragile, chilling and finally stunning. And how fun to have BWW's own iflitifloat as our seat-mate!
Then came Sunday, once again this year I was lucky and honored enough to be able to march in the Pride Parade representing The Matthew Shepard Foundation, a special thanks to Jamie McGonnigal in always thinking of me and letting me be a part of it, his kindness, humor, affection and talent is NEVER forgotten..and believe me, HE should run for MAYOR of NYC, everybody knows and loves him, his name was being called out at every corner along the walk! As we neared the Duplex we hooked up via cell phone with Robbiej for a live report from the parade for his audience in the PACKED upstairs cabaret room..he even got in a plug for BWW!
After the march we hightailed it over to witness Mr. Maitner's skillful and maniacal tour de force has host/hostess for the Duplex's Pride Day festivities, doing everything from singing Fiona Apple to having an x-rated trivia game bring down the house(and a few pairs of pants) he was on theatrical fire...I bet if HE was cast as "Albin", La Cage would still be open!
The delightful combo of bdwysinger and jrb-actor were in high spirits as part of the cheering crowd, with another "mystery" BWW favorite there to support the day and Robbie..how lucky that this site has opened up so many people to sublime talent and true friendships. It was a wonderful weekend, hope you all had fun..I know I did.

I'm completely wasted.
It was like running a marathon...in heels. But it was an aboslute BLAST. Thank you bitches for showing up and supporting (and to those other fabulous bitches who literally phoned their support in...I LOVE YOU!)
After speaking and singing for nearly 7 hours, I now sound like Brenda Vaccaro...but it was worth it! A fab day that was capped off with somebody named Scott showing me his hoo-ha.

(distant sounds of a helicopter)
Well, I didn't perform. ONSTAGE Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Seriously, it was a lovely day of pride--saw Jamie and Eddie march in the parade from 5th and 15th, then rushed over to the Duplex with bwaysinger to encounter the FABULOUS robbiej dressed like the lovechild of Vera Charles and Victoria Grant. Robbie was hilarious. It was a very entertaining afternoon. :)
And it was a great day of pride hanging with bwaysinger, Eddie, Robbie, Margo, Esther, Jamie, Brandon, and assorted others and strangers with candy.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 3:59pmAnd did NONE of you take a little photo of Ms. Charles-Grant? Come on! Thanks for all the reports. It sounds like BWW was well represented throughout all of Manhattan!

It was such a nice way to spend Pride -- 100 proof cocktails, getting to chat with David, JRB, Eddie Varley et al while that Stupid Psychotic B*tch castigated the crowd from the mic. A fun day

Posted: 6/27/05 at 4:09pmOh, by the way....... did you return Ms. Kitt's sequined cap yet? I hear she was looking for it and may put a hit on you if it's not back in her wardrobe ASAP!
#71re: gay pride with robbiej at the duplex
Posted: 6/27/05 at 4:17pmI sent Ms. Kitt a fitty dollar check to cover the cost of the tam. I also took her some Popeyes after the parade and we chowed down!

You're all BRAVE. I sashayed over at 4:00 pm and the Muscle Marys were squeezed in and practically falling over the Duplex barricades, topless and drunk as skunks. That appealed to me, but my friend panicked and directed me to the more seemly Florent.
#74re: gay pride with robbiej at the duplex
Posted: 6/27/05 at 4:42pmI have no concept of what it was like outside. I got to the Duplex at noon and didn't leave till about 7:30. The room got crowded, but it was never too overwhelming.
