Looking at it again, it did seem like it was stock footage of an audience. Had the audience really been there with the performance, the back of the stage would have been about 2 miles from the front row. Also, there was never a shot that showed the stage and audience in the same frame... Usually there is SOMETHING like that in an audience taping... Were they just watching a tape?
Especially since the performance looks like it was more on a soundstage than on a REAL stage.
Also, I don't think the cherry-picker was very fast. It was just VERY far away, and the zoomed in at the same time which seems to add motion.
I probably shouldn't nitpick, but so many people on the board keep saying "why don't the performance shoots in the U.S. look so good?" Well, if they carted the whole show to a soundstage in Brooklyn, if probably would look that good.
(A nice souvenir for fans, nonetheless.)
One funny aside-- anyone else notice that before Elphaba runs off to the cherry picker, it looks like she's trying to steal Galinda's purse?

Just correcting you, the acts in "Wetten dass..." are actually done in the show with the audience.
No correction needed-- I was actually questioning...
So they really are that far from the stage?
jp, I do think the performance is stellar, but I had the same questions you did. Does anyone actually know if it was filmed live? I agree that some of the camera angles, especially the one of the Ozians looking up at Elphaba, it would seem, had to have been shot without the audience. Anyone have any documentation of this? Thanks.

Yes, the show's live, they tend to have several stages for this show, so the talking and the bets are on one, and the live acts are on a different one.
So should they have put in pro shot material as well they must have brillant technicians. Actually as all live acts get coverages like that, I suppose they just have a whole number of cameras around that show act stage.

The German production just added 3 different TV spots with excellent footage on their website.

Go down to Videoplayer, and they're the first 3 videos.
Thanks, that's great. They really did do a nice job on the flying illusion.

Answered my own question.
I only have a basic understanding of the German language and I felt EVERYTHING in that performance. The ending gave me chills. Well done.
my God that is fantastic. The translation into German is great, little if anything is lost.
And I think in April I'll have to fly down from Berlin to see this when we are there.
Willemijn's No Good Deed is also amazing. The strength and clarity of her voice is breathtaking. She raised the hair on my arms.
