Some months ago I discussed the prospects of a second jukebox musical from the same catalogue since manuscripts are relatively cheap but good music in combination with a famous brand is rare. I asked the question whether it is more likely with a second abba musical then a second musical from an artist or band where the first one failed due to a bad book.
Howeve this might just be a bad rumour like the one about the abba girls cooperating with Madonna.
Good ABBA songs that were not used in Mamma Mia (in ABBA style which one may not like)in no particular order: Update: Actually these songs are in quite disparate styles and many are not typical ABBA songs. However they still bear the print of the songwriters and the singers of ABBA which may or may not be one's cup of tea.
1.Like an angel passing through my room
2.I let the music speak
These two are perhaps the two ABBA songs that most resemble classical or musical songs.
3. Hasta Manana (very feminine and cute with a good melody)
4. Cassandra (athmosperic)
5. Head over Heels (very 80's)
6. Fernando (probably the most famous ABBA songs which is not featured in the musicak but the cheese factor is a little bit to high for me in this song).
7. People need love (60's sort of beatles style)
8. Visitors (Indian style mixed with 80's synth pop)
When all is said and done (Breakup anthemic 80's pop song)
9. Arrival (Instrumental abba song in swedish folk style which were made into a song duet in french after the ABBA years. It was sung by a french guy together with Annifrid from ABBA.
10. Just like that (the never released abba song which was split in two. One song called just like that were released by the swedish twin duo gemini. The other part is used in the swedish version of chess).
11. Summer night city
12. Tiger
13. That's me
14. If it wasn't for the nights (one of ABBAs best songs in my mind. It was never released as a single. Similar to the style of the Bee Gees)
15. Hey hey helen
16 Rock me (sort of a drift with the alternative swedish 70's music scene)
17 Happy New year (almost forgot that one - think it should be included in Mamma Mia. Probably the most famous together with fernando).
18. I've been waiting for you (wedding march)
19. So long
20. when i kissed the teacher (very silly but a fun song)
21. Happy Hawai (not a good one but hey then they could continue the island theme. On a serious note the fixed location would probably disqualify this song)
22. Under attack (sort of the same metaphor as in Waterloo although without any mentioning of a famous battle. Very 80's resembling a Phil Collins song). Update: Oops this one is of course already in Mamma Mia. I switch it with "my love my life" which i forgot the first round.
23. The day before you came.
Ok thats 23 songs. As in Mamma mia if you count the encore song Waterloo.
Ok thanks to the "time man of the year" - site, i have accumulated a lot of ABBA knowledge. It's quite addictive watching retro videos.
Update: "Bang a boomerang" is a catchy song with a good synth intro. If they utilized that they could place the musical in Australia. Otherwise Im thinking Mexico since Hasta Manana and Fernando has spanish titles and the river Rio Grande is mentioned in Fernando. These two songs could used in a musical about the spanish american war or the battle of Alamo. The problem is that most of the other music is rooted in the 20th century (mostly 70's and 80's style). Therefore the story will probably have to take place during ABBAs heyday or later.

A jukebox musical, where none of the songs were ever actually ON a jukebox?
Weak.
I'm not doubting that some of the songs are good (I particularly love The Visitors, although its subject matter is somber indeed).
But this sounds more like a Jokebox Musical.

Hey would that mean the invention of a totally new musical genre? "The trashbin musical" . However some groups trashbins are more lucrative than other grops A-sides. Of course trashbin is only fair for "just like that" which in it's later incarnations actually is one of ABBA:s best songs.

I don't think we need to get too steamed up just yet - a few years ago the same newspaper reported that a sequel to 'We Will Rock You' was in the works using the Queen songs left out of the 'original' show, but that hasn't happened yet either.
I'd much rather see Kristina reach the stage first, but a lavish three hour sung through show about Swedish immigrants is a tough sell...

SweMozArt - Not a bad list (by the way, Under Attack is already in Mamma Mia), though I would debate a couple of choices depending on how they were used, like Hasta Mañana, which could be ok, or Rock Me, which I don't think could really fit into a book show with any redeeming value, and Hey Hey Helen, which has an interesting, if short narrative, but the melody never really takes off.
But I would add a few more:
The Way Old Friends Do - Absolutely gorgeous anthem of friendship, love and nostalgia that I've always thought would make a beautiful finale.
You Owe Me Owe - Infectious melody in a song about resentment.
My Love, My Life - Heartbreaking ballad of acknowledging that the one you love the most is leaving and learning to let them go.
Waterloo - Their first big hit about resisting love, but finally giving in.
As Good As New - Bubbly fun tune about rediscovering the joy of love in a long relationship.
Ring Ring - Another big hit. This one is about impatience and uncertainty in a relationship.
When I Kissed the Teacher - Total fluff song, but so much fun. It has potential for a great production number. It's nothing other than adolescent nostalgia.
Why Did It Have To Be Me - A charming 50's throwback duet where a "little love affair" goes farther than the woman intended. It could be used as a very cute comedic number.
Dance (While the Music Still Goes On) - Quite a sad and poignant song about facing the inevitable end of a relationship. I think the original version is a little too fast for the lyrics. If slowed down and restructured a bit, it could be a very effective number.
Watch Out - One of their most-forgotton songs. It basically is about stalking and is quite disturbing and predatory.
Love Isn't Easy - This is a very simple and bouncy tune that could easily be used as a recurring theme to tie everything together. To me, this early ABBA song could easily be the title of their entire song catalogue as it not only refelcts the subjet of most of their songs, but also of their own personal relationships. Little did they know how prophetic it would be at the time.

Thanks for the input. You are of course right about Under attack. It was a hastily written list and i haven't seen mamma mia since 99. And of course I forgot My love my life which is one of their most beautiful and contemporary sounding songs. I agree that Hey Hey helen never really takes of as a melody.
Obviously it depends on the narrative which songs would fit the best.
