Getting in contact with Company Managers

I’m really interested in theatre management and am planning on studying it in college. I would love to get in contact with a company manager to ask them more about that career. So if anyone can direct me to links with their information I’d greatly appreciate it.

I recommend starting local in Chicago.

Reach out to the Goodman, Black Ensemble, Steppenwolf, Victory Gardens, Court, Writer's Theatre, Harris, Theatre Wit, Gift, Mercury, Porchlight, Second City, and Royal George.

Contact the Chicago Fringe Festival, Broadway in Chicago, Loyola's Bob Newhart Theatre, and Hell in a Handbag.

If you're serious about it, I would start by taking one or more of the CTI courses (especially the 3-day intensive or the longer 14-week one if you live in NYC).

It's really not for everybody --- and these courses (especially the 3-day intensive) will give you a good indication if it's what you want.  If you decide it is, then you'd most likely have to start by interning or assisting at a General Manager or producer's office and work towards an assistant company manager job.  When you're starting out, the pay is lousy and the hours are basically 24/7. It's not for the faint of heart.  If you decide it's what you want, then good luck to you!
