BUT we finally got it (Little Fish). And that was worth the wait ~ it's gorgeous.

So if perfecting it means the release date is later, so be it. I'd rather have it as close to perfect as they can get it than have it quickly and it be a crappy disc.

So, if they are saying Spring, which is faster than they normally go, wouldn't this indicate that there's some reason for them to rush here? I know, I know, I'm reading tea leaves. But I'm outta candles to light!

I've been reading along here in a mini-panic over the comments comparing the Arena and Second Stage versions. But I have always been a person who thought people could agree to disagree and no hard feelings. So, here's me:

I think the show at Arena was close to perfect. It was Perfect for Me. And I don't want to step on someone else's bliss about the earlier versions, but it's just better than before. Period.

So, when I get my CD, I won't be wishing it was something else. I'll be cheering that it is this version, sung by this cast. I hope there will be lots of Dans and Dianas and Gabes and Maddens in the future and that we'll be telling our grandchildren "You think that's special? Well you should have seen the show with the original cast", whoever that cast is for each of us.

One thing, though. The difference between 'what doesn't kill me makes me stronger' and 'what doesn't kill me doesn't kill me' is growing up. The writers and the show grew up, chose truth over platitudes, and uncovered a human, genuine, and generous thing. I'm grateful, and I expect I will be forever.

I saw the Second Stage version several times and the Arena version many, many more times. I will echo what others have said. The changes are for the better. I am grateful the Arena version is what is being recorded.

And no, Feeling Electric has no place in the show as it is now. Maybe as a bonus track, but nothing more.

Exactly, it should be a bonus track sung by anthony.

So what are the chances of this being a 2-disc recording?

Hmm. Good question. I have difficulty seeing how they could cut it enough to make it fit on one disc...AND have it make sense and be true to the show and score. But who knows.

If my memory is right, they are in the studio today!

Does Ghostlight ever release things online, like mp3 versions we can just download? Or do we have to wait til they burn and package CD's?

Today and tomorrow.

You can usually find their stuff on iTunes ~ but come on. Just get the cast recording on CD and import it to iTunes! You'll get it a LOT earlier than the release date for stores and on iTunes when you pre-order anyway. (Example: I got Little Fish so early the information wasn't even online yet and I had to type in all the information!)

I can't imagine how they could feasibly trim it to one disc; the show has two hours of music. As they are already in the studio for two days recording the show, the added expense of a second disc's production cost would be minimal. They could justify it by raising the price of the CD $1.50 to $2.00, if that.

Is Aaron Tveit missing performances in WICKED because of the NEXT TO NORMAL recording? (today's matinee for instance)

Yes. Jerad Bortz is on today for both shows and Kyle Dean Massey is on Thursday and Friday.

He was indeed out for today's matinee, and according to broadwayunderstudies.com he will be out tomorrow and Friday as well - though I do not know if those are related.

edit - whoops too slow, oh well. Updated On: 2/11/09 at 05:14 PM

No problem iamdangoodman. :) Glad to help. Sadly the email alert doesn't mean a pre-order. But keep a watch on the site (not just the email). They'll put it up for pre-order ASAP. :) Like ~ when they have a release date.

Can't wait to see what they use for the cover!!! Though I'm glad they at least have the words up in a little thumbnail already!

Feel free to PM if you ever want to chat. :)

I don't think you can pre-order yet. It's just signing up for email (which I did just to make sure they KNOW the interest is there!). But from the whole Little Fish experience, keep checking the sh-k-boom website (or here as I'm sure there will be a message on the boards as soon as it's available for pre-order)! I want to say the "now available for pre-order" email went out as those of us who kept an eye no the website and pre-ordered from that as soon as we could were GETTING our CDs.

Skinny, skinny boy.

I too am curious to know what picture they use for the cover. I didn't really care for either poster design...so hm...maybe it will be something new?

Broadway.com ran like 18 pics. :) ADORABLE!!!

Passed Aaron on the street tonight (well, last night if we want to be technical... Saturday night) and we chatted for a moment. He said they recorded THIRTY EIGHT SONGS!!!

Even more excited now.

I'm sure it's going to be two discs. No doubt in my mind when they announced it'd get recorded. I'm excited too. I really like a lot of the underscoring and stuff, so I hope they work the dialogue in pretty well. I just wonder what the future for this show is going to be like?

Where'd yall bump into - like part of town? Where is the recording studio?

Thanks for posting that link. I'd have missed those photos otherwise. They look like they are having a ball.

I read where they are talking about the Longacre. Anyone know anything about that? I haven't seen much there but if memory serves it is a good size for these guys.

Anyway, anticipation builds in my household. Fingers still crossed!

This was last night when he was on his way back to the Gershwin ~ 8th around 48th, 49th when I ran into him. (I was on my way down to see Guys and Dolls.)

They recorded Wednesday and Thursday...but I heard Hell's Kitchen area.

As for the Longacre, as far as I know that was someone on ATC who saw that it's empty and went HMMM (especially since they have yet to come back and explain themselves after being directly asked if they'd heard something). Personally? I think it's too big. They need a smaller house ~ like the Golden, the Hayes...or even the Booth (since Story seems to be doing SOOOO well).

so, 38 songs? wow, that's EVERYTHING if they make You Don't Know and I Am The One one track.

I truly believe that the only theatre that would work for the show in the Hayes.

I'm way excited to see what they decide to do for the cover.
