I agree with you on those add ons, All That Jazz is one of my favs. I was only putting songs on that were the eleven o'clock numbers, but for you, I'll make an exception!

"The Impossible Dream" sung by Brian Stokes Mitchell is impressive, it by far blows "Gimme Gimme" out of the water. Dont get me wrong, I do love that song and Sutton does a WONDERFUL job singing it, but nothing can compare to "The Impossible Dream" and "Rose's Turn." There is a reason why those songs are memorable. I also have to agree w/ Copeman, "Cabaret" is also very impressive.
I think Sutton Foster's performance throughout this show was outstanding, right from the opening scene. I also think the turning point was "I Turned The Corner", and "Gimme Gimme" was the culmination. This is the greatest breakthrough performance I have ever witnessed, and "Gimme Gimme" will allways be Sutton's trademark song.
Copeman, look who's talking about being obsessed with ONE show. I haven't seen Thoroughly Modern Millie 23 times. I absolutely loved every show I've seen on Broadway. WHo ever said that anything other than Thoroughly Modern Millie wasn't good enough? It just happens to be my one of my favorites. The particular songs you named didn't strike me as the most powerful of songs, except for Rose's Turn. You said Bring Him Home from Les Miz, which was never one of my favorites from that show, but there are SO many other songs that are really really incredible.

While there may be songs that are emotionally more powerful, vocally no song can blow me away like Gimme Gimme does.
I never found "Gimme Gimme" to be that great. Sure, Sutton has a powerful voice, but listen to the lyrics. They are very inane. Infact, I think the entire score's lyrics are very lame. If it wasn't for the jazzy orchestrations...I wouldn't have the cast recording.
As someone else posted....iI'm in my 20s and can relate to the song a lot. Plus, when I saw Sutton Foster first perform it, in previews, I was totally blown away. To tell you the truth, I had no desire to even see TMM, but I was given a ticket by one of the producers, whom I was introduced to shortly before the show started. I've seen it 11 times now and one of my favorite parts in the show is Gimme Gimme. I guess it's just one of those songs that either really hits you or really doesn't? That's just my guess...

Whateva Broadwaygirl... I love Mamma Mia!, I make no secret of that, however, I also don't pretend that it's the end all show for everything. There are so many thing that put it to shame. However, I am so sick of everyone thinking that Millie is this amazing show, when it won the Tony by a fluke, when Urinetown truely deserved it. And if you want to get technical when you insult me, I've seen Mamma Mia! more than 100 times...

SO basically you're sick of people loving a show that you're not crazy about? Get over it, people are gonna have their own opinions about different shows, I happen to think Millie was an amazing show, why should that be a problem? I think it deserved the Best Musical Tony. I have my own opinion about that. If you don't agree, you have every right to, but I'm not gonna attack you just because you have a different opinion.
Urinetown deserved the Tony over Millie. I enjoy both shows (aside from Gimme Gimme, cause like I said, it bores me) but Urinetown was far more deserving.

I completely agree about Urinetown. I found Millie to be stupid, inane, and fluffy, not to mention highly annoying in that it "borrowed" songs from other shows ("The Speed Test" is "My Eyes Are Fully Open" from Pirates of Penzance, for instance). In addition, the revelation where Millie, Jimmy, and her boss figure out Meersie's plot was ridiculously contrived and obviously hurried along since they didn't have time to gradually work it in. I thought it was highly overrated and that Urinetown absolutely deserved the Tony.
I think the borrowed songs were brilliantly placed, and brought out some of the funniest moments in the show. The biggest laughs came in parts like "Ah Sweet Mystery of Life" and "Muqin." And I think the idea of putting "My Eyes Are Fully Open" in there was to take a fairly well-known operetta style song, which obviously did not fit in with the jazz of the 1920s, and use it to separate that character from the rest of the characters involved with the story. That song was used to show you that, in a nutshell, Garydon is an operreta character stuck in a musical. He's an old-fashion guy, living in a fast-paced modern world, and he didn't quite fit in.
And the show is a comedy. Much of it was supposed to be stupid. It's not supposed to have a life lesson in it. Sure they worked in the nice story about how New York changes peoples lives, which I thought was nice. But for the most part, it WAS supposed to be stupid. It was in many ways poking fun at cheesy moments that you see in many other shows. Any time it became too corny, it was interrupted by humor, which I thought was really clever. It was a lot of stupid humor, but at the end of the day, it had a lot of heart. The show was not meant to be RENT and have a lot of substance and teach some sort of life lesson. You go see that show to be entertained, period. Old fashion musical comedy with up to date humor, now you can't can't much better than that.
