i don't think j'aime_le_theatre meant shows ABOUT heavy girls littlewing.
i took it as a search for a show whose character content is girl heavy (as in abundant)

The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending.
The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."

Ruthless
Quilters
Spitfire Grill (small, and there isn't much dancing, but only three boys, one of whom doesn't speak or sing)
Dames at Sea
Zombie Prom
Cowgirls
Radio Gals
Nunsense (any of them)

Little Women (doubt the rights are out yet)
Aida (Zoser's chrous could be changed to women)
Evita (practically a one person show...)
Millie (?? Don't know the show that well)
Also I love the idea of gender blind casting. Taking a role that normally a guys role, interpeting it differently, changing the key and having it played by a woman. Jesus Christ Superstar would be a fun show for that.

Dames at Sea . . .
We did Dames at Sea back when I was in HS. It was kind of a cute musical.
I, unforunately, was in the orchestra as first flute. Could not carry a tune to save my life.

NINE:)
(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

I think "Funny Girl" and "Wonderful Town" have quite a few female parts. "Sound of Music" and "Gypsy" as well.
And gender blind casting does help. :)

Nine --- It's all females except one male (the lead). Lots of singing. Some dancing, but not HEAVY on the dancing.
Smile --- Fits your bill perfectly. Mostly females. Lots of dancing and singing. Some male roles as well, but the all the girls in the beauty pageant are the "star."

My first reaction was Smile as my University is looking at doing that for our season next year. For the "older" shows I'd prefer H$S or Smile over No No Nannette which is the other consideration. Are there any really good roles for guys in Smile?

There are a handful of "guy" roles in SMILE, although it's been a thousand years since I've seen it. Jeff McCarthy has the male lead as Big Bob Freelander, and he was great! It's a good, solid "leading man" part. He's either the manager or the "facilitator" of the pageant, I forget. The part was played by Bruce Dern in the (non-musical) movie of it.
The other great male character is the has-been choreographer Tommy French. A very funny part, because he's got "one foot in the grave" and he's trying to choreograph a pageant with the theme of "Health."
The other good part is the pageant's emcee Ted Farley, a cheesy Bert Parks kind of role. He sings the show's title song.
But there are LOTS of female roles (most of them are the contestants), and all the contestants dance.

not many have heard of this but MTI offers 'moby dick' the musical (or something to the likes of that name) and its about an all-girls school putting on a musical about moby dick (i THINK..when i was in highschool we were initially going to do this, i don't remember why we didn't)

Quitlers is the first one that comes to mind, since it's an all female cast. Are you interested in an all female cast or like a 2:1 ratio cast, or what?
