Of the two classics, The Glass Menagerie and Long Day's Journey Into Night, I think the latter had the more messed up family.
Which do you choose?
And which do you think is the more powerful play? Much as I love Menagerie, the story of the Tyrones is to me the stronger.
A non-musical theater question? What is this? Who are you?
J/K...honestly, I have not seen "Long Day's Journey" but I know the basic premise...they sound more messed up than the Wingfields. Honestly, I don't think the Wingfields have it too bad. An introvert with a limp? A neurotic mother? A father who left when the kids were little? Welcome to America.
haha yeah I was gonna say I'm gonna go with Long Day's Journey because The Wingfields just feel like my family lol. I think for that reason I would say Glass is the stronger play although Long Day's is amazing! Glass just REALLY hit me hard and I fell for it. It remains my favorite play with The Pillowman a close second
While The Glass Menagerie has closeted homosexuality and physical deformities going for it, The Tyrones are definitely more screwed up. I mean, Amanda Wingfield never told Tom that she wished he was never born, like Mary tells Edmund in Long Day's Journey.

The Winfields on stage are a smaller family than the Tyrones, but Amanda Winfield is more screwed up than all the Tyrones put together :) These two plays are actually my two favorite plays with Streetcar running a close 2nd. Maybe it's the audience that is the most screwed up
