Godspell stage trick question

Hi folks,

I am currently directing a production of Godspell and was wondering if some of you could help me with this question.

Does anyone know how, in productions of both Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar, they crucify Jesus? Our Jesus will be crucified on a fence, but I want to avoid having him stand on a box. I was wondering if anyone knew how to safely crucify someone so they essentially hang there. I know of a few ways to do it... for example in JCS the cross simply has a small seat that Jesus sits on. I'm not sure if this will work on the fence.

Can anyone help me?

Sorry I can't help, I just had to comment on the fact this is the ONLY website I know where people come to ask for help with crucifying someone. Which I suppose is a good thing. :)

You only need to put a small plank (best word I could think of) on the fence so that the actor can put his heel and weight on it yet it would appear as there is nothing there. The true trick is securing the plank.
