I see Godspell is touring next year. Anyone know who's doing it? Is it NETwork?

I clicked on one of the ticket links and received an odd picture of a cat with the following caption:
"Ceiling cat was unable to find any tickets for this event."

Lol, MUCH more entertaining than the Godspell revival.

Well Rentboy,
I, for one, am familiar with both companies and 25 seconds on Google would have yielded the home pagesColumbia Artists for both, as well as almost anything you would need to know as to identify them.
Drayton is a Canadian company, which would explain why you are not readily familiar:

Columbia Artists has worked on a large number of tours, among them NETworks' Wizard of Oz, Jekyll and Hyde and Deborah Cox and Constantine Maroulis, the current Chicago tour, as well Blue man Group and many others:

Both companies are quite legit with lengthy histories.

Posted: 8/25/13 at 3:26pmI wish the tour the best. I'm sure they'll have to re-stage it because what went on at Circle in the Square, whatever your opinion of it may be, cannot possibly be re-staged at every venue around the country.

Posted: 8/25/13 at 3:54pmI don't think they'll re-stage it entirely different. After all, the re-staging was what made the revival unique and different. I remember reading online about two years ago or so that Richard H. Blake was rumored to play Judas. Anyone know if it was true?

Posted: 8/25/13 at 4:03pmWell, as long as we're counting blue cars, the "unique and different" revival was a re-staging of an earlier Papermill Playhouse production by the same team and some of the same cast...

I didn't mean to imply they weren't legit companies, just that they aren't the "typical" road companies we use here in the US.
And more power to them. I wonder what kind of tour it will be? Is it playing major cities or smaller markets?
I imagine it will be a totally new version and not the one seen on Broadway. Obviously that one was designed for being in the round. I'm sure this one will be totally scaled back too. There's no real way to pass around wine during intermission in a 3000 seat house.

But Columbia IS one of the typical road companies. They just are not usually depicted as marquis name on a tour.
Technically speaking, you can not "scale back" a production of Godspell. Gospell is a bare bones show to begin with..
and the "wine" was a feature of the revival. It has nothing to do with the show itself as written, so not having that has nothing to do with scaling back and everything to do with having a different creative take.

Posted: 8/25/13 at 8:07pmActually, the show as written (and the original productions) included the cast giving "wine" (usually actually grape juice) to the audience, who were invited onstage during intermission. Not sure how or if that will play into the re-staging, but, well, there it is.

Posted: 8/25/13 at 9:22pmLicensed, perhaps. But, as they discussed when creating the original AND revival versions, its a bit more free form and dependent upon improv to tell the story. Many companies still use original cast member names as charaters, but I dont consider those, gospell, pardon the pun, so I suppose we will agree to have differing opinions on what is germaine to the script of the show.

Posted: 8/25/13 at 11:49pmTechnically it's suppose to be a tour of the revival, but I'm sure, since it's coming a few years later, and I'm sure it won't have the same creative team, it will not include the wine.
