What verse in song do you think is SO Gorgeous that it moves you to tears?

Mine is, from the song "Tell My Father" from THE CIVIL WAR

"Tell him we will meet again
Where the angels learn to fly.
Tell him we will meet as men
For with honor I did die.
Tell him how I wore the blue
Proud and True through the fire.
Tell my father so he'll know
I love him so."

Everytime I hear this song tears just flow from my eyes and this verse is what does it.

"They're eating her and then they're going to eat me. OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!" -Troll 2

"In a very unusual way,
I owe what I am to you
Though at times it appears I won't stay,
I never go
Special to me in my life
Since the first day that I met you
How could I ever forget you
Once you had touched my soul?
In a very unusual way,
You've made me whole"
-"Unusual Way" from Nine

"You'll always go along,
Defend him when he's wrong
And tell him when he's strong
He is wonderful
He'll always need your love
And so he'll get your love
A man who needs your love
Can be wonderful"
-"Something Wonderful" from The King and I

I love that one!! It's SO sad!!

Or Il Adore, from TABOO:
"Silence equals death, this is what they say
But all the anger and the tears do not chase the pain away
How far must we go, how near must we be?
Before it touches you, before it touches me..."

There are soooooo many

There Are Worse Things I Could Do (From Grease): I always thought this song was so underated.

Foor Good (From Wicked): The part when they both sing different lyrics and the music builds to the finish

Over The Rainbow (From The Wizard of Oz): When Glinda sings the reprise, just before Dorothy clicks her heals. It only happens in the stage production but it always brings tears to my eyes.

Home (From The Wiz): The whole song lol

You'll Never Walk Alone (From Carousel): When the entire chorus joins in singing "walk on, walk on"...I love it.

"Hate the way you look at me
But I can see the terror in your eyes, your eyes
You pull the trigger, your smile is sweet
I don't care if we never meet, that's fine
It's alright..."
-Petrified, from Taboo

"Damn my soul, if you must
Let my body turn to dust
Let it mingle with the ashes of the country
Let them curse me to hell
Leave it to history to tell
What I did, I did well
And I did it for my country
Let them cry 'dirty traitor!'
They will understand it later..."
-Ballad of Booth from Assassins (I know it's a weird one to be moved by, but I just think it's so powerful...)

Although, and again this one's not a normal one either, this is the one that moves me the most:
"There's a young man on the street, Miss Jones
He's walking round in circles
He's old before his time
But still too young to know
Don't look at him, don't cry, though
This living on the giro
Is only a sign of the times
Miss Jones
It's just another sign of the times."
-Take a Letter Miss Jones from Blood Brothers

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

I always cry, without fail, in the Finale of The Secret Garden when Archibald says "And this is your garden!" And then everyone starts singing Come To My Garden, but it's not the lyrics, it might just be me...

I always cry during No One is Alone, but I can't just pick one verse, and Lament from Into the Woods (duh):
Now you know what's out there in the world
No one can prepare you for the world.
Even I. How could I, who loved you as you were
How could I have shielded you from her or them...

No matter what you say, children won't listen
No matter what you do, children refuse to learn
Guide them along the way, still they won't listen
Children can only grow from something you love
To something you loose...

"He's like the son I might have known,
If God had granted me a son.
The sons must die, one by one,
How soon they fly, on and on,
And I am old and will be gone."

- Valjean singing "Bring Him Home", a prayer for Marius, in Les Miz. (Colm Wilkinson's performance of this song is angelic and heartbreaking)

"You know that our parting breaks my heart,
I have never felt such sorrow.
All the love I have I leave with you.
I once promised 'till death do us part
And yet I'll be gone tomorow.
Please believe me what I said was true.
But when I go, I'm on my own. The path I walk, I walk alone.
I face a bitter world with only memories to guide me.
I care more than I have ever cared.
Yet, I know that I am leaving.
You'll be in my heart my whole life through.
And all the love I have I leave with you."

Shbrt, I adore that song.

For me,

"To dream ... the impossible dream ...
To fight ... the unbeatable foe ...
To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ...
To run ... where the brave dare not go ...
To right ... the unrightable wrong ...
To love ... pure and chaste from afar ...
To try ... when your arms are too weary ...
To reach ... the unreachable star ... "

I'm the daughter of a maid.
She stands alone where the harsh winds blow:
Salting the earth so nothing grow
too close; but still her strong blood flow...
Underground through hidden veins,
down from stormclouds when it rains,
down the plains, down the high plateau,
down to the Gulf of Mexico.
Down to Larry and Emmie and Jackie and Joe.
The children of Caroline Thibodeaux.

When I bought tix to this show, I never expected to be so touched, but I love "Alone in the Universe" from Seussical.

Yes, I have wings, and I can fly
Around the moon and far beyond the sky
You called my name and you set me free
One small voice in the universe,
One true friend in the universe,
Who believes in me.

I agree with both "Tell My Father" and "Unusual Way". "Unusual Way" brought me to tears when I saw "Nine" and every time I hear it sung (on both the original and revival cast recordings), I get chills.

"I Hate the Bus" brings me to tears:
And I'll live in my house
I'll live in my house, by myself, all alone
And if I'm lonely, doesn't matter
I think there's worse than being lonely
There's people who freeze while they wait on their knees
And they don't know for what and they just been forgot
And I ain't waiting no more
You just wait forever if you can't say what for
The day come soon
I'll pack up the nothing I own
And I'll live in my house, and I'll make it okay
By myself...all alone

Current "God, that's lovely..."

Stay in this moment where secrets reveal
Here in a world where there's safety in falsehood
I have discovered the one thing that's real-
That I love you and I loved you from the start
And if you hold that close to you we'll never be apart

The other song in CIVIL WAR that makes me ball (and almost every single one of the songs make me tear up) is "Sarah." It is based on an actual letter that a soldier wrote to his wife before a battle in which he died in. I can't write just one lyric, I have to write the whole song.

"Oh, Sarah my sarah
I fear I must go
And leave you to move on alone.
A hard wind is rising and fixin' to blow
And scatter the days we have known
But come what may I'll alway be with you
Watching from above.
Oh, Sarah my sarah, my love
I see you my sarah when I close my eyes.
It's summer and we're at the fair
Your laughter so haunting, so full of surprise
Drifts back like some ghost through the air
So when you feel a cool breeze passing by
Know that I am there
As real as the words of my prayer.

If fate is kind I'll soon be by your side
But always know you can find me deep inside.
Oh, Sarah, my Sarah I'll whisper your name.
My thoughts all will run home to you.
My heart is the candle and your heart the flame
That burns with a fire so true
And know that we will surely meet again
Until then I swear
I love you, my Sarah
Forever and always
And always my heart will be there."

OMG, I teared up writing that. It doesn't help that I am listening to it right now. *CRY*

The finale from "Passion" brings tears to my eyes every single time I listen to it.... Well, most songs from this musical do, but this one in particular - just gives me chills.

"Now at last I see what comes from feeling loved.
Strange, how merely feeling loved,
You see things clearly.
Things I feared, like the world itself,
I now love dearly.
I want to live.
Now I want to live,
Just from being loved.
All that pain I nursed inside
For all those years -
All that vain and bitter self-concern -
All those tears and all that pride
Have vanished into air...
I don't want to leave..
Now that I am loved.
I don't want to leave.
Everywhere I turn, you are there.
Everywhere I look things are different.
Everything seems right
Everythings seems possible,
Every moment bursts with feeling.
Why is love so easy to give
And so hard to receive?
But though I want to live,
I now can leave
With what I never knew:
I'm someone to be loved.
And that I learned from you.
I don't know how I let you
So far inside my mind.
But there you are and there you will stay
How could I ever wish you away?
I see now I was blind.
And should you die tomorrow,
Another thing I see:
Your love will live in me...
Your love will live in me..."

"Years from now, when you talk about this - And you will - Be kind. "

CHOIRGIRL:
Bless this day,
Pinnacle of life,
Husband joined to wife.
The heart leaps up to behold
This golden day.

PAUL:
Today is for Amy,
Amy, I give you the rest of my life,
To cherish and to keep you, to honor you forever.
Today is for Amy,
My happily soon-to-be wife.

AMY:
Pardon me, is everybody here? Because if everybody's here, I
want to thank you all for coming to the wedding, I'd appreciate
your going even more, I mean you must have lots of better things
to do, and not a word of this to Paul, remember Paul, you know,
the man I'm gonna marry, but I'm not, because I wouldn't ruin
anyone as wonderful as he is--
Thank you all
For the gifts and the flowers,
Thank you all,
Now it's back to the showers,
Don't tell Paul,
But I'm not getting married today.

CHOIRGIRL:
Bless this day,
Tragedy of life,
Husband joined to wife.
The heart sinks down and feels dead
This dreadful day.

AMY:
Listen, everybody, look, I don't know what you're waiting for,
a wedding, what's a wedding, it's a prehistoric ritual
where everybody promises fidelity forever, which is
maybe the most horrifying word I ever heard of, which is
followed by a honeymoon, where suddenly he'll realize he's
saddled with a nut, and wanna kill me, which he should--
Thanks a bunch,
But I'm not getting married--
Go have lunch,
'Cause I'm not getting married--
You've been grand,
But I'm not getting married--
Don't just stand there,
I'm not getting married--
And don't tell Paul,
But I'm not getting married today.

Go, can't you go?
Why is no-
Body listening?
Goodbye,
Go and cry
At another person's wake.
If you're quick,
For a kick,
You could pick
Up a christening,
But please,
On my knees,
There's a human life at stake!

Listen everybody, I'm afraid you didn't hear, or do you want to
see a crazy lady fall apart in front of you, it isn't only Paul
who may be ruining his life, you know we'll both of us be losing
our identities, I telephoned my analyst about it and he said to
see him Monday, but by Monday I'll be floating in the Hudson with
the other garbage--
I'm not well,
So I'm not getting married--
You've been swell,
But I'm not getting married--
Clear the hall,
'Cause I'm not getting married--
Thank you all,
But I'm not getting married--
And don't tell Paul,
But I'm not getting married today.

CHOIRGIRL:
Bless this bride,
Totally insane,
Slipping down the drain.
And bless this day in our hearts
As it starts
To rain.

PAUL:
AMY: Today is for
Go, can't you go? Amy,
Look, you know Amy,
I adore you all, I give you
But why The rest of
Watch me die My life,
Like Eliza on the ice? To cherish
Look, perhaps And to keep you,
I'll collapse To honor you
In the apse Forever,
Right before you all, Today is for Amy,
So take My happily
Back the cake, Soon-to-be
Burn the shoes and boil the rice. Wife,
Look, I didn't wanna have to My adorable
tell you, but I may be coming Wife.
down with Hepatitis, and I
think I'm gonna faint, so if
you wanna see me faint, I'll
do it happily, but wouldn't
it be funnier to go and watch
a funeral, so thank you for the
twenty-seven dinner plates,
thirty-seven butter knives,
forty-seven paperweights,
fifty-seven candleholders--

PAUL:
One more thing--

AMY:
I am not getting married!

CHOIR:
Amen!

PAUL:
Softly said--

AMY:
But I'm not getting married!

CHOIR:
Amen!

PAUL:
With this ring--

AMY:
Still I'm not getting married!

CHOIR:
Amen!

PAUL:
I thee wed.

AMY:
See, I'm not getting married!

CHOIR:
Amen!

PAUL: AMY:
Let us pray Let us pray
That we are getting married That I'm not getting married
Today! Today!
