So who would play each woman in Golden Girls, the Musical?
I'm thinking Elaine Paige, Patti Lupone, Betty Buckley sort of casting.

I <3heart<3 the Golden Girls
And let's not forget the episode Michele Pawk was in.... where Rose goes to the support group (the one where they tell everyone they're special and they'll never say it to Rose) and Michele is the support group leader :)

I remember that!
Sophia: My name is Melanie Griffith.
and then when Dorothy was going to leave, she said Come on Melanie!
And then Michele said to Rose after Rose asked for her to go over a statement again
"Yes Rose. I'll explain it to you afterwards like last time"

I'm hysterical laughing reading these posts...because I know every single episode you guys are talking about! (I'm SUCH a cool college girl...:))
Remember when Sophia had the near-death experience and saw Sal? And when Blanche pretended her granddaughter was her baby to attract the guy?
Oooooh, and the one which featured a VERY young and incredibly gorgeous George Clooney as a cop?
And the visits from that great dog Dreyfuss from next door?
Hm, who could play Stanley Sbornak? :)

Did you know the guy who played Stan Szbornak died years ago. I remember Bea mentioning it in an interview. It had a great impact on the cast. I guess he was a funny guy behind the scenes.
Did anyone else notice that sometimes the same actor would be in the show for more than two roles?
Examples:
The professor who wanted to sleep with Blanche to get her a passing grade WAS THE SAME GUY who Blanche dated that ended up sleeping with Rose's Sister
The man who Rose had sex with the first time after Charley died on the cruise in Season 1 WAS THE SAME GUY who played Miles
The man who played the cop Dorothy had a crush on alongside George Clooney WAS THE SAME GUY who Dorothy had an affair with like 10 years ago, and then he came back into her life seperated from his wife. He brought Sophia those cookies from the Bakery.

I just saw the first one with Debbie Reynolds yesterday. They show re-run's all the time on a channel called Living, over here. (Ha! 'Living', 'Lifetime'.)
I can just imagine a musical version! LOL, But as has been said, I can only see the original cast.
I love that whole cast, that show, still rocks in re-runs!
I HAVE to look out for that ep with Michele.
They've just started showing the Golden Palace on Living too. And it's okay. Not great, as I love Bea. It's just not the same without Dorothy.
But I did laugh so much at an ep I saw the other day that was a parody of A Christmas Carol. Anybody see that?
I only saw the end of that ep where Sofia came in and said, "I did what I always do. I bought a necterine." NOW I know what it meant....Awe!
"And the visits from that great dog Dreyfuss from next door?"
Loved the dog. LOL and I used to love watching "Empty Nest" to see Sophia visit. Which show came first, "Empty Nest" or "Golden Girls?" I thought it was Empty Nest and Golden Girls was a spin-off from that?

As far as I know, Golden Girls came first and then Empty Nest came later

Not quite, CJR. I don't remember it exactly, but there is another line after the one about the hip. Something about "generic is a steal."

Empty Nest was a spin-off of The Golden Girls. I think a show spinned-off Empty Nest. It was about the Bachelor who lived next door. I think his name was Max. He used to bug Harry all the time.
Did anyone buy the DVD or VHS of Nunsense with Rue as Mother Superior? Is she funny? Im sure she is at the end of Act I. I dont know whether to buy it or not.

For those of you who are die hard fans remember that there were two different actors that played Stan.
Also remember in the early episodes they had a gay cook (that really didn't work out).
Re: Nunsense with Rue: Her acting is very good, but she only talks the songs, she doesn't sing them. There is one point in the video where she breaks up laughing and can't stop. The video is worth seeing for Terri White's ("Barnum") performance as Sister Hubert.
If you're looking for the episode of Golden Girls with Michele in it, it's called "Great Expectations." (On a Michele related note; She was also in a few episodes of Law & Oder: SVU and one episode of Quantum Leap).
As for Nunsense: I saw the video with Rue. She is very funny, but, yes, I would kind of agree on the singing. (She tries to sing, but it just doesn't come out right.) I would still recommend the video. Also, she was in the production of The Women. I have no idea if it's out on video, I did see on PBS a while ago, so who knows.

What other actor played Stan? What episode/season was this? Im a die-hard fan who has seen every episode and I dont remember this.
Anyone remember in one of the first episodes Dorothy tells Sophia to wait on the La Niye (sp?), and she said "What the hell is that?" and Dorothy shouts "The porch!" and Sophia said "Why didn't you say that in the first place? Why give it a special name?". It's funny because I didn't know what the La Niye was either until I saw that. In the early episodes, Dorothy called Sophia "Mother" instead of "Ma".
The gay cook didn't work out. You're right.
SOMETHING ONLY DIE-HARD FANS WOULD NOTICE:
Why is it there was always a coffee cup in the water/ice dispenser in the refridgerator? It always bugged me.
"Some weird coincidences only a psycotic fan like myself would catch...."
Here are two more...
The actor who played the waiter posing as Blanche's date at the banquet when they all had the flu was the same actor who played Rose's doctor when she thought she might be HIV positive.
AND
The same actor played two of Rose's boyfriends; Arnie, the first man she slept w/ after Charlie died and Miles, the college professor.
One of my favorite Golden Girls moment...
The girls are in a drugstore before they go on a cruise. Blanche
looks over at a shelf and suggests they get some "protection."
Of course, Rose sees everything on the shelf except the condoms, including a Nestle's crunch. Exasperated, as she usually is when dealing with Rose, Dorothy shouts, CONDOMS,ROSE! CONDOMS! CONDOMS! CONDOMS! Then the clerk tells Dorothy to calm down and asks her if she just got out of prison and proceeds to call for a price check on the condoms! Blanche and Dorothy have the lambskins, and Rose has the ultra-sensative. In black. ROTFLMAO!

" Now what in sam hell are you all staring at? We are vital women in the prime of our life. We are going on a cruise with some gentlemen friends of ours. We are not embarresed. We will walk out of here with our heads held high knowing what we have done with socially and morally responsible "
I think thats how Blanche's speech went on the intercom.
I love it when Blanche tells people off. Like when she socked that boater in the face after he grabbed Rose when Dorothy was dating Dick Van Dyke.

I am cracking up at that Just out of prison line. LOL!!!!
I remember the first time I found out what a La Niye was. I used that term from then on. lol It reminds me of when I was little, and my friend Kristina & I were bored, so my mom suggested we play Chinese school on Kristina's stoop....I had no idea what a STOOP was! My my is from Brooklyn...I'm not. LOL I found out it was an outside set of stairs. NY terminology.
Back to the Golden Girls, I was just watching the episode when Blanche's brother announces that he is going to marry his boyfriend and she is upset by it. Then she realizes how stupid and selfish she is being. I was not even aware that gay marriage was legal in any US state back then. ?
Gay marriage still is not legal in any state. The closest thing to it is a civil union in the state of Vermont.
Even though we can't legally marry, some gay men still refer to their partnerships as marriage.
I beleive la niye is spelled launai or something similar to that

It's so great to see that I am not the only one who is such a fan of The Golden Girls, or can remember so many of the episodes. No matter how many times I have seen an episode, I still watch. As for a musical, there would be so many wonderful casting choices, but it would be so hard to get the original "Girls" out of one's memory. Wait a few more years (OK quite a few!), and perhaps Jane Krakowski as Blanche, Bebe Neuwirth as Dorothy, Bernadette Peters as Rose, and Harvey Fierstein as Sophia!
Now that is a cast! Well, with the exception of Harvey. LOL
I can totally picture Jane, Bernadette, and Bebe. Kristin Chenoweth would make a great Sophia! As long as they put a lot of old lady make-up on her like they did for Estelle (who ironically is the youngest of the Golden Girls).
I just thought of something! In about 20+ years, Bernadette will be Sophia! She is sicilian. LOL
Rose: "Miami, you're cuter than an interuterine..." Updated On: 6/16/03 at 04:44 PM

Dorothy: Thrice! Who the hell says thrice?
Rose: It's a word
Dorothy: So is interuteron
Later on.....
Rose: Yeah Dorothy, I bet you didn't even notice the thrice of them sitting on the couch...
