I went backstage to the tour of Phantom of the Opera. My dads friend's uncle was playing Firmin (David Cryer) and he got us backstage in chicago at the caddiallc palace. I had a phantom mask with me (hoping to have it signed with no luck as gary mauer had left already) but I was asked to sing so I sang some of Music of the Night and All I Ask of You (Reprise) on stage for some of the cast members. It was absolutly incredible. I then remember talking to David seeing he played Sweeney and won awards so I did Epiphany scaring his nephew senseless. IT was increidble!

Errrrr yeah, a lot of times.
And for the person who said this:
Either you know someone or you can show a lot of intrest to the stage manager or the doorman outside.
I think that's kind of obnoxious, using people like that, don't you? Well no, apparently you don't because you said it.
In any event, go backstage if you know someone or someone invites you back. Don't try to "make friends" with someone at the theatre just so they'll bring you backstage. It's really not worth all that... especially the whole fact that you're completely using the person.
I'm stepping off my soapbox now, but that just incredibly rubs me the wrong way.

woah woah woah there hooters magee! When i said show intrest to the stage manager or doorman, by that i meant what i say is im a theater student and i want to pursue it as a career, 9 times out of 10 they invite me backstage. most of the shows that i listed i have friends in, excluding spamalot and never gonna dance. thanks for your comment and have a good day.

I see it happen a LOT and that's why I made that comment. Had you elaborated on your statement in the first place I wouldn't have said anything.
Don't get high and mighty on me.

Wicked, Brooklyn, Cats, Tick Tick BOOM, hopefully RENT soon.
"Hooters" practically owns one of the theatres that you claim to have attacked, Ragg. I think you should shut up now, before you end up looking like more of an ass.
what is this a team of hooters? geez ladies have some class. good day. p.s. with all due respect, the shubert, although a classic, has some of the worst views. my friend from college is related to shubert the theater, so team hooters back off.
Look little TobyRagg, I may not have hooters but I do indeed have a rather large Italian appendage that I will beat you across the face with if you ever disrespect CJR again! Got it kid?
By the way, The Shubert is one of the most sought after houses on the Great White Way. Besides, you have no business backstage anyway unless you are involved in the production.

And backstage isn't all that grand, anyway. If you aren't there to see a friend or somebody in the cast or crew, it's kinda pointless and intrusive. What are you going to do while you're back there?
annie get your gun with bernadette....my grandmother once knew the producer and she kinda told an usher at the theatre that we knew him well :-/....sooo he eventually took us on a tour and it was so exciting. I'll never forget walking onto that stage and looking out. very cool.
Wonderboy . . . I'm thinking about dissing CJR . . . just the vision of Miss Miller with appendages . . .
LOL
Hahahahaha! Hey Hanna I was a Phaedra the Enigma once too ya know!

I went backstage at Wicked twice, once from pure luck, and the other, Jennifer took me and my friend backstage and gave us a tour, which is a long story.
Phantom like 12 times.

I didn't threaten you, Ragg. I just said not to get high and mighty on me. Frankly I dont have the patience to put you back into your place.... but it appears from the responses after your last post, I don't even have to.
Thanks guys.

I haven't gone backstage for anything, sadly. But I was freakin' close to doing it for Wicked in L.A...we had no way of contacting the people that would get us back there. Gahhhhh. I am still pretty ticked to this day. :-/
Spamalot last month. I met Joh Bolton (standby) at the stage door and struck up a conversation with him. When he found out I'm planning on majoring in musical theater, he asked if I would like to come backstage with him.
He took me and my aunt in through the stage door and showed us the stage and backstage. He told me I could climb up on the set if I wanted, so I got to go up on the castle and one of the towers on the porcenium. Then he showed us the wings (I saw the coconuts, Grails, and Trojan-rabbit). He told me to feel free to take pictures, so I now have a great picture of me standing on the Shubert stage. My Broadway debut! haha
While I agree that one should not USE anyone to get backstage. My experience was brought about by a genuine conversation with an actor. The thought of going backstage never even crossed my mind. It was merely a kind gesture by this actor that ended up making a dream come true for me.
I went on stage at The Lion King on broadway. But it was only because I went on The New Amsterdam Theatre tour. hmm it's too bad they wouldn't let us in the wings. ah well.

I called Disney Theatrical Productions to see about setting up a backstage tour of Beauty and the Beast for my group and got no help from the company manager at all. He gave me some line that they had security concerns because Christy Carlson Romano was in the show and there were no backstage tours. I think that is a very likely story (yeah right.)
I went backstage at "Beauty and the Beast," "Les Miserables," "The Music Man," and the "Cabaret" national tour. Nothing really interesting to report.
