Wax Lion wants everyone to join in to send uber good vibes to our very own Kyle (winner of the biggest rent fan contest), as he treks to NYC. Why is he going to NYC you ask? Only for an audition with Bernard Telsey for the tour of RENT!
Good luck, Kyle...Wax Lion will be thinking about you tomorrow at 2pm. Break a leg...
Love,
Wax Lion

Why are they holding auditions now for the tour? Current castmembers are contracted through the end of summer, with the possibility of an extension. Hmm, I wonder if maybe someone is being replaced? The only one I can think of, though, is in a role which Kyle couldn't play.
Aw, yay Kyle! Do really well so you can replace Matt! Break a leg!
Welcome back, Wax Lion! We've missed you!
Wax Lion, you confuse me oh so much!

i already let you a message on AIM kyle, but break a leg!
Well I already called you, IMed, you and texted you...but show them how amazing you are for it and all of that.
I am so so proud of you, you deserve this chance more than anyone else. GO KYLE!!!
I am curious, do you have to pay your own way or do the producers pay for your travel and hotel when you come to audition? Is this what you won as being "the biggest Rent fan?"

He won a trip to the movie premiere for the contest, so this is something different (I'd assume).
Break a leg!
Why do they have separate auditions for the "tour"? I mean if you are in New York don't they just have auditions for "Rent" and they keep you in mind if anything opens up on tour or on Broadway? That doesn't make sense to me...It is like saying "Yea, you are okay for the TOUR, but not for BROADWAY."
Wow...
Thank you all so much for your support. To answer a few questions:
I did get to meet Mr. Telsey at the premiere, but this audition is completely separate from the contest.
I had to pay my own way here. I left Pittsburgh after an insane day of classes and rehearsal at 11:15... arriving in NYC at 8am. I'll be leaving NYC at 3:30am on Thursday and getting back to school at noon.
This is such a dream come true. I can't believe everything that I've been able to do this past year. Keep your fingers crossed this afternoon!
Thank you all a thousand times over!

Sueleen, the tour is non-Equity so when they had the auditions for the new tour back in November, the call was not for Equity actors. Rent has regular open calls every six months or so in the city, and usually more than a thousand people audition. They also have instances where agents send in people for specific auditions, or favors are done, or someone gets an appointment for an audition at Telsey, there are various ways that this occurs but it does occur all the time. No one pays your way to the city for an audition.
I'll be anxious to hear more from Kyle as to what the circumstances were for him. I know many friends who have gotten these opportunities over the years and each has their own story. :)
Thanks, erin. I didn't realize the tour was non-pro...er...equity.
Wax Lion has just heard it through the grapevine that Kyle did very well during his audition. So as to not step on anyones paws, Wax Lion will wait and let Kyle tell of his adventure. Through the horses mouth, so to speak.
Congratulations, Kyle, on a job well sung!!!
Love,
Wax Lion

Wow, Kyle. I'm so happy your audition went well. I can't wait to hear all about it.
Waxy, we missed you <3
I just got off the phone with Kyle and he sadi thanks for your good wishes.
He sang all of Halloween and all but the end of Glory (what he was told to prepare). Only one other person was told to learn the entire songs, everyone else there was only doing 16 bars of stuff. I guess it went insanely well!
