A recent production of the musical was presented at the New York Stage & Film on the campus of Vassar College. That staging featured David Larsen and Justin Guarini, runner-up in the first "American Idol" TV competition. No casting has been announced for the Broadway run.

Opening Night Cast To come

Synopsis Yep, yet another tuner with the songs of our youth. Appears that producers have stumbled upon a dependable formula: The potential audience that can afford a hundred bucks per ticket and potential backers who can write a check for a hundred grand are both north of forty so give 'em music they know and with which they identify. Good Vibrations, based on music by the Beach Boys, definitely qualifies

Oh, about the show, something to do with teenagers on the beaches of -- where else -- sunny, Southern California

The Road to Broadway Word of Good Vibrations and the show's aspirations first surfaced in November 2003. Shortly after a Summer 2004 run at the New York Stage and Film Workshop, with Justin Guarini in the lead, CBS News reported the show headed for New York City. We had the production pegged for Spring 2005; the show is apparently is good enough shape to open a couple of months earlier, in time for the holiday rush

Does ANYONE actually care about this show? A show featuring meaningless soft rock hits by the beach boys and staring the relatively talentless (did none of these producers see "From Justin to Kelly"?)and already washed-up Mr. Guarinni doesnt seem to spark the slightest bit of interest in myself. With this and the new Elvis musical coming, Broadway is getting as tasteless as some ben elton west end productions. Anyone else feel the same??

For god's sake stop ripping on rock music and calling it meaningless. It's meaningless to you but people out there made their entire lived around this music. It means a lot to them. The Beach Boys were good people and a landmark of their time. Shut the **** up already!

Evidently there were a lot of investors who cared enough after the Vassar production to put this show on the fast track to Broadway. Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys were and still are hugely popular. As for Justin Guarini, he was talented enough to be offered a role in the Lion King on Broadway prior to American Idol. I believe he was also offered the understudy to Simba. Blame the writers of From Justin to Kelley for coming up with such a crappy vehicle for him.

I can't wait to see Heidi Ettinger's sets for this production. She tends to do darker peices (Dracula, Secret Garden) and it will be interesting to see her do some light and fun beach set. Also her Little Princess set is sure to be great.

BTW, Guarini is not the lead in this musical.

I saw the show at Vassar. It was ok.... it reminded me a bit of Grease. Nothing to write home about. Guarini was definately not the lead - he's a pretty small character who has one song (he was really good). I enjoyed David Larsen as the lead - I think he would do well in the role if he transfers to Broadway. Megan McGinnis was the fem. lead, but she's doing Little Women this fall, so who knows who they'll find. I'm curious as to what improvements they'll make when they transfer. If anyone has any specific questions about it, PM me.

The Beach Boys: a new musical in Broadway and also a plaque for the legendary home

The nine-member California Historical Resources Commission on Friday unanimously approved historical landmark status for the old home of the Wilson family (3701 W. 119th St., Hawthorne, California) following a detailed 20-minute PowerPoint presentation by Harry Jarnagan, a Beach Boys fan and construction engineer from Tracy who started and led the drive to get the location recognized.
It's the five-room home where Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson -- three-fifths of the Beach Boys band -- grew up and crafted many of their early tunes.
Jarnagan envisions the plaque and monument being unveiled in a formal ceremony that he hopes will be attended by surviving band members and their relatives. He even has a date in mind for the unveiling: March 7, 2005 -- the 60th anniversary of the day Murry Wilson and Audree (parents of The Beach Boys) bought their 119th Street home.

"Good Vibrations," the new musical that uses songs from The Beach Boys, will open in early December at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in Broadway (New York City).
John Carrafa will direct and choreograph "Good Vibrations," according to a press announcement and it features more than 30 songs written by Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys.
A recent production of the musical was presented at the New York Stage & Film on the campus of Vassar College. This staging featured David Larsen and Justin Guarini, from the first "American Idol" TV competition. No casting has been announced for the Broadway run. A great Justin Guarini by the way.

BTW, I read that Justin had two solos, Darlin and Sloop John B, and was prominantly featured as a dancer and in some of the chorus songs, Surfin USA and California Girls. Heard the show was fun, fun, fun.
