Okay, seriously? This thread has done really well so far. The arguments have been minimal. Munku, I've seen you and sinenomine have disagreements over this very topic in other threads. But please, keep it out of this one. If you don't agree with what we're doing or saying, fine. Leave. Because frankly, we don't want to read what you have to say if you're just going to be negative and start up arguments.
So yeah. Thanks.

Dracula's recoriding is going to be just like the J&H Complete recording (with Anthony Warlow) - obviously a different cast....
Dodgers was supposed to bring the show on tour - doesn't look likely...
GV is the ultimate low because it take a mediocre band with a few hits and turns it into the show.
Hell, I can make a VERY touching show out of Patti Labelle and Aretha's songs - actually....wait....just thought of the plot!
Wow, it isn't bad...it would work with original music....
HMMMM.....

Oh please. The Beach Boys are mediocre? Whatever. As someone born and raised in Cali, The Beach Boys are *not* mediocre. They have amazing harmonies, some beautiful songs, and are a lot of fun to listen to.
Seriously, why did you waste your time typing all of that up seeing as none of us care? I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just concerned about your time management skills, is all.

I like the Patti LaBelle and Aretha idea. We should talk! What about Patti Austin, too? Hmmm. . .starting to get a little DreamGirls!
For the record, though, if the Beach Boys are mediocre, then there's no such thing as excellence in the pop world. Rolling Stone picked Pet Sounds as the #2 album of all time and God Only Knows was recently voted the greatest love song all time. According to their bio, they've achieved 32 RIAA Platinum and Gold Record awards and have had worldwide sales of more than 100 million. In 1988 they were inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and in 2001 were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys.
We should all be so mediocre and have such few hits! :)

Just 18 more sigs to hit 100. Not bad for a Sunday afternoon, Kelly-Caitlin!
sinenomine, I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'd like to shake your hand!

Ha, thanks! Considering it hasn't even been 24 hours since I started the petition, I'm quite proud! <3

"sinenomine, I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'd like to shake your hand!"
One of these days we're just going to have to do that!
Okay: I'm not defending the show, and I'm not bashing the show. I'm kind of defending BSO (maybe hell has frozen over) in saying that it's his opinion that the Beach Boys are mediocre. Him thinking they're just okay has no influence on how many records they've sold. I'm not particularly thrilled by their music either, but I wouldn't call them bad (which BSO didn't either.) My problem with their music being put into a show is that the songs are completely not-theatrical. They tell no story, and they serve no purpose - they're just fun songs. So to try to form a plot around songs that are about nothing to begin with is a heavy task.

Have you heard 'In My Room' or 'Caroline, No' or many of the other songs put into a show? They're deep songs that aren't just 'fun', but actually do mean and say something and help develop plot and characters.
You call it the way "surfers" are, I call it stupidity. And if that's your way of thinking, perhaps this show should have opened on the west coast instead of New York City.

Well, unfortunately for you, it opened on the East Coast and there's not much you can do to change it, so what's the point in griping? You don't like the show, we get that. The whole board gets that, believe me. So you can stop saying negative things now.
Completely off topic now, I love the movie Bent, so yay for you. <3

eh. I doesn't show up very well. I need to redo it I think.
But It's Amanda and Sebastian. <3
or rather: "Bikini Girl" and "Jan"
btw: almost there to 100. I love it!

XD I totally talked to Amanda after Spamalot since we were at the same show and all. It was great. And yes! I totally see it now. <3
Woo! Only five more until my goal for the evening is met!! I'm excited!
think of it this way, if you get people to sign it, maybe people will stop posting about it

Ha see? It makes everyone happy. It makes the fans happy because it makes us feel like we're doing something and we *might* get some results. And it makes everyone else happy because it stops the posts about it.
XD So, you should totally sign.
Over 100 in one day. That's so awesome! <3
Even though I hated the show and will never buy the CD, I signed the petition. Hopefully, it'll shut Bryan up. That will be enough for me.

Thanks for signing at least.

I really enjoyed the musical (saw it twice), but if I want to hear Beach Boys music I already have their CDs which sound much better. Sorry.
On the other hand, I just saw "All Shook Up" last night. Not an Elvis fan, but I thought they did an EXCELLENT job with this musical, and would highly recommend it. I wish they would have done the same with "Good Vibrations" since I really like Beach Boys music.

aww Ken. I am disappointed. I thought you were one that we could count on to sign this, since you posted positive things about the show in the past. I hate that you have changed your mind. :-/ However, to each his own... if you aren't comfortable signing it, then so be it. 108 other people are. (So far anyway...)
:)
I did like it, and recommend seeing it. It's fun. It's just that Beach Boys music SOUNDS MUCH better sung by the Beach Boys..... Have NO interest in buying a cast recording, that's all. Just being honest. To each their own. Everyone go see the play though (Like I said, wife and I did see it twice...)!!
Have you seen "All Shook Up" yet?
Stand-by Joined: 7/13/03
No. Haven't seen it yet, but I don't live in NY. Hard for me to see everything I want to see because it requires an airplane!
I will say that I am NOT an Elvis fan...AT ALL. It probably would not be on my list of shows to see because of that. I was a casual Beach Boys fan before I saw GV though, so that's one reason why I chose to see that one.
It's fine that you aren't interested in a GV recording. Differences of opinion makes the world interesting! I appreciate the honesty and I am sure the cast appreciates you and your wife seeing it twice! And recommending it to others.

Ken: I find your posts really refreshing. Unlike so many people on this board, in order to praise show X you don't say show Y sucks. You're actually capable of liking both shows, albeit one more than another. And, although you like GV, you'd prefer to hear the Beach Boys sing those songs. Perfectly simple, sane and classy.
