Hey guys,
so one of my students just mentioned an urgent need for suggestions for a good trio for girls. The following is their situation and kinda what they're looking for:
~this is for a performance troupe of kids in grades 10-12 from all over the county.
~it doesn't have to be strictly a trio, it can be something that perhaps the entire group could do that you could work 3 significant solos into.
~something age appropriate as well as audience appropriate, etc.
~I Want It All, Baby Dream Your Dream, Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now are among ones that have already been done - something not terribly obvious/overdone would be ideal - this groups been around for 10 years, they've done just about every gal trio I can think of
~nothing terribly difficult as the show's in about a month or so!
Thanks in advance, you guys rock!!

I'd go for "At The Ballet" from A Chorus Line, that's always been one of my favorite trios. Though I think you could tweak the trio from Aida "A Step Too Far" to make it for 3 girls.
Thank you guys so much - you're on the right track, you're mentioning things that they've either done recently (At The Ballet, Mama I'm A Big Girl Now) or are in this show itself this time around (A Step Too Far).
I don't think they'd be allowed to do the one from Hair, they run through a youth theatre so...gotta get the okay on everthing...I'll pass along the Mikado and the Little Shop ideas...
keep em' coming guys, I really appreciate it! :)

Yeah, A Step Too Far would be good, with a little manipulating of Radames' notes. Nothing too major.
Maybe the title song from Little Shop of Horrors, or Skid Row (Downtown).

You Could Drive a Person Crazy is a great song (I just closed a run of the show as Joanne) but I would be nervous about the lyrics for any type of audition in terms of age apropriate-ness.
I think I'd go with Step Too Far..It's a great piece and switching it around wouldn't be difficult.
Turn "If Mama Was Married" into a trio.
I once saw some kids do "Freddy My Love" as a trio, but they did Freddy, Teddy and Eddie. It was kind of silly, but they were young, so it worked.
50's/60's girl band songs like "Mr. Postman," "One Fine Day" "My Guy" etc.
Well, at camp, we turned Popular into a trio song with girls aged about 14-16 or something like that....here was our blocking and such:
Well, here's how they did it. Just so you know, one role is large, the other is smaller, and the other has even less than the rest. There was also an Elphaba. It starts with Galinda talking to Elphaba about being Popular(Galinda is standing, Elphaba is sitting), and Galinda starts singing the song. Elphaba is trying to stand up and get away, but Galinda continuosly pushes her back down. Galinda sings until "....how to fix your hair, everything that really counts to be...." while Elphaba is almost offstage. One of Galinda's friends sudenly jumps out and starts singing "popular! I'll help you be popular...." until "'cause you've got an awefully long way to go!" while pushing Elphaba back to centre stage. At "long way to go" Galinda and her friend- we'll call this friend friend #1- are holding Elphie's hands and swinging them back and forth. Friend #2 suddenly jumps out from behind, grabs Elphaba very quickly, and starts singing "Don't be affended..*until*..personality dialisis!" Then Galinda does the next part while sitting Elphie down in her seat. Galinda sings until the "Lalas" where all three girls sing. After this, Galinda and friend #1 start making Elphaba up while friend #2 sings the next verse until the words "to think of"....then she switches place with friend #1. All three girls say "please!" and "like me!" You can do a small bit of a skit here to show Elphaba leaving. All three girls go centre stage and sing "and though you protest your dis-interest"....then Galinda sings "I know clandestinedly" until "popularity"! All three girls do the La's until the end and then pose and run off stage. If you ever perform this in this way, I suggest you make Galinda a valley girl, make friend #1 act really into herself, and make friend #2 very comedic and over the top. In the final La's, you can have friend #2 try to find a spot between the two other girls until she gives up and simply stands beside them. This is how we did the scene at the camp I went to....if you have any other questions, feel free to ask them as the way I have written may not make much sense.
The audience seemed to love it, even though it is a bit overdone. Depending on where you are, that might not matter.
"Louder than Words" from Tick Tick BOOM! I'm sure you could somehow raise the notes for the two guys' parts.

The Witches of Eastwick!!!
Its based on three females,
great songs including:
I Wish I May
Make Him Mine
Look At Me
Eastwick Knows
all great trios, I Wish I May is very popular in the musical theatre trios at lots of dance festivals i perform at, they never do it justice though....please try though!
My friends were talking about arranging "Hear My Song" from SFANW for three girls. I don't know how mature your singers are, but this could be an option.

sing for your supper is FABULOUS! Especially if they let you do all the encores.
