You totally didn't understand what Thom mean't by that as you didn't understand the show either.
Please stop bashing it and let it RIP.
Others' opinions are just as important as yours.
THE TIMES... (to me) was difficult, beautiful, strange but highly imaginative and incredible to look at and Definitely a JOY to listen to.
I am mostly saddened that it will now be even harder for someone with the talent and vision of Twyla Tharp to present something different on Braodway othe than another revival of friggin' GREASE.

I really, really thought the show was terrible. Yes, the people were talented. I'm sure plenty of people enjoyed the singing, the visual aspects of the show, and the sometimes inspired choreography, but still -- it was a mess. From beginning to end, I felt like absolutely nothing was said. It was a Dylan concert arranged to present a "message." Oh boy.
I don't understand why everyone gets so defensive about closings. I understand being attached to a show and being sad that it's gone, but it's a reality of the business. Sometimes the best shows get picked off first, and sometimes the worst linger on for years and years. In the end, you were there in the moment with everyone else in the audience and the cast on the nights or days of the performances you saw, and you took from it what you took from it.

You would have to ask Thom exactly why he said that, but I am sure it wasn't
"Hey everyone we were a flop!"
I took it more to the line of we have all worked very hard and are proud of what we presented for the time it lasted.
and Rickydrummer, I totally disagree with your opinion of the show but you certainly are entitled to it.
But I do agree with most of your second paragraph about being in the moment, I for one, am glad I got to be in the Theatre in that moment with THE TIMES...

What Thom Sesma said was: 'For 35 previews and 28 performances, we danced 'beneath the diamond sky, with one hand waving free,' and we couldn't have done it without our audience, audiences like this. Thanks for supporting live theater. Thanks for supporting 'The Times They Are a-Changin'.' Peace now!'
Sesma was NOT 'admitting' he was in a huge flop; he was quoting 'Tambourine Man' (which is where the 'diamond sky' line comes from) and expressing his gratitude for being part of Twyla's show, even if it was only for 35 previews, etc. Even if it didn't run, Sesma and co. were very proud of their work.

My husband saw it last Sunday and he said that the audience really loved it then, too. Thom spoke after the performance (to give the BC/EFA pitch) but said first, "Thank you for giving us our show back." He was REALLY grateful to the audience for the enthusiastic response.
(I didn't see it, so I cannot comment at all.)
