Just adding some needed balance to all the CORAM Love.
>still doing the victory dance on CORAM BOY's well-deserved grave<

Does it bother you that much that so many people liked the show?
Some much needed (negative) balance to something that people enjoyed?
Makes sense.

Doesn't bother me at all. I've gotten over being bothered that kind of thing. After all, people like George W. Bush, too.

Yet, you still find it necessary to make let everyone know how much you hated "CB"--- move on....
Anyway... have a great day !! Looks like another nice day !

"Thurs nite, Karron Graves flower popped off her ball gown--- that was hysterical !!"
That happened also when I saw it Wednesday. And so did the cake spitting.
It really was a great show and a great production.

Just because they like certain shows in London doesn't mean they are superior or have better taste. They've supported multiple long runs of "Footloose", "Fame- The Musical" and "Saturday Night Fever" (which is coming back there for a THIRD time tied in with a so-called reality show). Even though I enjoyed two of those shows (SNF, "Footloose") they were not well received on Broadway.
Sadly, sometimes bad taste works on both sides of the pond. How else do you explain "Cats"?

Posted: 5/31/07 at 7:10pmThe final week's grosses were less than I would have thought -- 69% capacity and $370K. Much better than the previous week's 50% and $274K, but probably still not a break-even week for them, unfortunately.

Posted: 5/31/07 at 9:14pmI was lucky to see the Closing Performance. And I must sad, it was one of the most spectacular shows I have ever seen on Broadway. It is one of those shows that TRULY deserved a standing ovation! I wish it had lasted longer.

Ditto !! Was at "Radio Golf" the other night, and got into a conversation with a bunch of TDF'ers..... all of them could not believe that show closed so soon !!

Outside of BWW, I have heard many people discussing CORAM BOY and how amazing they thought it was, etc.
Crazy critics.
Can I say, Jan Maxwell's performance in CORAM BOY is also one of my favorites. Act II, she gave a great performance.
Elbrick was also fantastic throughout the play.

BSoBW2, I love the Jan Maxwell quote in your signature.
She is such a strong actress and we're so lucky to have her talent in the New York theatre community. I look forward to seeing her in her next project, what ever that may be.
Much like Victoria Clark in the musical theatre world, Jan Maxwell has hardcore chops for both comedy and drama. I have no doubt that she will be accepting a Tony Award some time soon.

Posted: 6/1/07 at 8:18amThat is my one prayer that Coram Boy's excellence will at least be recognized in one of the Tony fields.
#65re: Goodbye, CORAM BOY!
Posted: 6/1/07 at 8:44amI predict that it will take Featured Actress (Elbrick) and/or Lighting Design. I don't think this show will walk away empty-handed.

Posted: 6/1/07 at 10:05amIf Elbrick won I'd be one happy lady. However, everything I've been reading regarding the Tonys says that Plimpton and Ehle are the front-runners for the award. That certainly would be an exciting Tony surprise!
#67re: Goodbye, CORAM BOY!
Posted: 6/1/07 at 10:17amIn Elbrick's case, her nomination was her win.

Posted: 6/1/07 at 2:02pmI was amazed there weren't more acting nominations for the show. Everyone was so superb! And I hope it takes best director. It should have been nominated for best play.
#70re: Goodbye, CORAM BOY!
Posted: 6/1/07 at 2:13pmI'm sure if it had gotten the best play nomination (which it definitely should have) it would be considered to have better chances in other categories. Elbrick is, without a doubt, the person who I feel should walk away with Featured Actress in a Play no contest, but all signs point to it being Ehle or Plimpton (of the two, I liked Plimpton much better than Ehle, who seemed to just yell her lines a lot) as being a part of the massive pull for Utopia to take everything. Don't get me wrong, I liked all three parts of Utopia and it was beautifully staged, but in my mind Elbrick surpassed all the others in her category. I think the only thing that gives her a slight possibility though is that every show in that category is closed...Butley the longest, then Utopia, then Coram Boy, so its not like Coram Boy is closed and the others are still open for voters to see.

Thanks for that direct quote from Broadway.com.
Well, I don't read Broadway.com on a regular basis, but it would seem like a pretty common thought. Elbrick is talented, and she may very well win a Tony down the line, but I can't see her winning for this play. I guess Broadway.com can't, either.
That said, I think she would be a better choice for GYPSY than Benanti.
#72re: Goodbye, CORAM BOY!
Posted: 6/1/07 at 6:01pmOhhh she would be interesting as Louise. I'd go see it, but then again I'm not a big Benanti fan.
