Grassroots Effort to Revive AMT!

Hey,

I am attempting to start up like a grassroots movement for AMT ... to start it off, organize a huge benefit concert with performers from all over the nation who've been involved with AMT in some way (and perhaps a few Broadway megastars). Any thoughts? Suggestions? I am totally up for this, and do know that it has the huge potential to rake in so much money.

I have already recieved support from a few people, who are also willing to help out in any way they can.

What are we going to do? Donate $800,000.00 to cover the tickets already sold and $2.5 million of their lost investment? I don't think there is much we can do until the legal thing is settled.

After speaking to a former staff member at AMT who I know well, that very well may be true; and if it is, then so be it. However, I am also curious as to how the stipulations are worded and all; in the midst of bankruptcy consideration, companies cannot do anything, but if there lies the possibility of finding holes in/getting around the wording...

I still hold out hope.

At least I am trying.

To save a 73+ year old musical theatre from being obliterated forever.

So, does anyone know the real amount of what was lost? From the Atlanta newspaper link on the main Broadway board, it said AMT only gave $225,000. Where did the $2.5 million come from? Is that the amount they were already in debt before spending money they didn't have? Ticket sales already covered the $225,000?
I hate to see a company go under, but really. If this is their financial practice, they need to get their priorities straight before they get more money to lose.

And Lizzie, if nobody did anything about anything, what would happen? Nearly 100 supporters on Facebook in half a day; I've sent e-mails to Robert Kelley, Randall King, SJ Rep and City Lights asking for opinions/suggestions...

I refuse to believe that "nothing" can be done ... and even if we have to build another AMT from the ground up, then so be it.

From what I've read it doesn't seem like they had a good business strategy at all. This isn't the first time a show has been cancelled, and for any business strategy to work, even in the Arts, you have to be able to prepare for it to back out because it could happen. Especially if you're co-producing a production. It would have been better if they stopped co-producing for awhile and invited tours in that were already touring. That way they could build up to it again. But I guess they just hoped for the best, and their best destroyed an organization. You would have thought they would have learned their lesson in 2006.
If they can come back to life, which I do hope happens, I hope they learn their lesson and start paying attention to what they are doing and funding.

They paid 6 figures for Tarzan, as TMM stated. The 2.5 million mentioned was an "estimated income" from ticket sales for Tarzan.

Now here's the problem....

Putting "Estimated Income" for a show into a budget to plan on using is bad planning. What if the show had tanked in San Jose (doubtful, but what if?). They'd still be a lot of money short of their budget.

Always, ALWAYS budget within your means and any overages you get from ticket sales.... GREAT! But don't plan on using money you haven't guaranteed getting yet.

It's unfortunate, and I'm sure things will be done to help them out, but while I hope the matter is resolved and AMT is back on its feet eventually, we can't say they're without blame and had no bad decisions in their business.
