Grease Production Number on the Tony Awards

Terrible group choreography, poor singing all around, especially from the men. highlight was Laura Osnes' legs.
it's really bad when you sing "we'll always be together" and form a cheesy kickline-sort-of-thing. Really, Marshall, dignity?
Wasn't as embarassing as it could have been, though.

I actually kind of enjoyed it...I've heard horrible things about the show, but THIS performance alone...I liked it

Posted: 6/16/08 at 12:19pmI have had no interest in seeing it, and now...even less, sadly. I know this shouldn't matter, and may not be the sets of the show, but those pink and baby blue lockers were just sooo cheesy. It seems so sexless, and slick to me. But the performers weren't bad...just not much chemistry.

Posted: 6/16/08 at 12:32pmShame on Kathleen Marshall for the poor poor choreography and overall direction. I would expect so much more from her. What a lazy route to take.

It says a lot that they made a very specific decision to focus on the ensemble and not the two leads.
I would have expected any other show to feature at least "Summer Lovin'" or "You're the One That I Want" instead of that awful theme song.
Bad choices, among many others.

Those numbers are not as they are in the show.
The Tony performance was 50x better than anything onstage at the Brooks Atkinson.

I would've preferred to see that, although I understand they wanted to showcase the cast's energy and not make it just about the two leads.

They should've done something else than what they did. They probably just should've done Summer Nights, but I will agree that it was better than hearing Taylor Hicks singing Beauty School Dropout.
I only want to see Grease for Laura Osnes. I think she's got a great voice and is probably a good actress, but I have no interest in seeing Crumm or Hicks. When I look at Max, I don't think Danny Zuko, I think more like Doody or even Eugene.

i totally agree with you worrell.
dont go see it because of laura osnes even though i love her too her fellow girls on stage with her are spectactular, sry dont want to name them all because dont want to forget one.
wish they let allison be an u/s for danny or i want to see her as marty too.
the guys standout are ryan binder and brian sears when i saw him as roger. jose as sonny is great.

I thought it was fun, but the music in the show is different and so is the choreography.
I like Grease!!

Yeah, they should let Allison understudy Danny. That would be fun

but they do have great chemistry in the cheerleading scenes.
