Why is Laura Osnes so more successful then Max Crumm?

Well, first off - how are you defining success?

Because she can right gooder then him?
As some sort of attempt to legitimately answer a silly question...
Osnes fits the ideal of a beautiful young Broadway ingenue. Essentially every Broadway musical has a role she could play. This she works all the time.
Crumm, even on the tv program he won, was championed as a quirky, unconventional choice. He's a character actor and there aren't a lot of roles on Broadway for young male character actors.

Tell this to the always working Tony Award winner Christian Borle. Seems he missed this memo.
Well Borle is over a decade older than Crumm. Not exactly sure how you could even compare them on paper. It's not as if they were contemporaries up for the same roles.
Christian Borle has been actively working on Broadway for almost 2 decades in character roles. He didn't just begin his Broadway career a few years ago. Character roles, in whatever capacity, are heavily in demand in everything. Jackie Hoffman is another example of a constantly working character actor. Grumm needs a more aggressive agent as I'm sure he could be working more than he has. He's definitely talented.
I don't argue with anything you're saying Brody, but My point is that Borle's most noteworthy successes have been in the last decade when he was older than the age Crumb currently is.
I disagree there are a lot of major roles on Broadway for character actors in their 20s. And I'm sure Jackie Hoffman among others would agree with me on that point. She's a perfect example of a character actor who is had later in life success.
Moreover, I'm sure part of Crumm's issue for casting directors is that he is a little quirky for a traditional leading man, and perhaps too cute for an oddball character part. Obviously a big part of success in the industry is just the right role happening at the right time for the right performer.

Character actors aren't usually tapped to be the star of a big new Broadway musical. Tell that to the producers of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
I would think Borle's success also has something to do with the fact that he drips with charisma and that comes thru in almost every role he plays, large or small. Crumm, while a capable actor, does not.
