So can Idina.
JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

she was off-key and she sounded like a chipmunk
Ways to annoy people: Arrive at a meeting late, say you're sorry, but you didn't have time for lunch, and you're going to be nibbling during the meeting. Then eat raw potatoes. Ask people what gender they are,or Disagree strongly with everything anybody says:)

>>Hitting the HIGHER notes? Those notes she is expected to hit are like..FREAKISHLY high. Most girls can't go ANYWHERE near that high I mean-without going falsetto-that's AMAZING<<

I'm not sure which notes you're talking about. While I don't want to sound like I'm trying to put down Idina (she's incredible), none of the notes she hits in Wicked are *that* high. They're all very normal notes for a mezzo for even an alto to hit, and I would have a hard time finding any girls I know who would call the notes "freakishly high." re: Great WICKED clip

I'd have to agree with Delphine that she sounds strained of the word "deFYing" and maybe even a little flat, however she was nowhere NEAR off key, nobizlikeshobiz, and it is your minority opinion that she sounded like a chipmunk re: Great WICKED clip

re: Great WICKED clip

I dont think Idina was nervous for the Tony's, but she was really bad. I heard it was her third time performing that day, but i dont really think thats an excuse to sound like that. But it isnt like she did it on purpose.
PS. I really wish i had a chipmunk that sounded like Idina Menzel.

re: Great WICKED clip

If you think those notes are "Freakishly high", I assume you've never heard the title song of Phantom Of The Opera, which goes up almost another octave. (E6)

Seriously, all but the REAL second altos can hit those notes (albeit not with a belt), and they are well within mezzo and soprano range. Most mezzos & sops can "mix" them, some can belt them (personally I think mixing sounds better - pure belt tends to sound strained at that pitch), but all can hit them.

re: Great WICKED clip

I also thought Idina looked really nervous performing at the Tonys. This evidently effected her singing, because it really wasn't anywhere near as good as it is on the recording.

re: Great WICKED clip

nothing even is the same as the recording- they can retry and alter the sound to make it sound perfect. Thats part of the beauty of live theater- no performance is ever the same- but recordings will be the same over and over again forever locked in the cd. With recordings everyone on the team works at it long and hard to make everything perfect. Thats what a recording is- perfection- or close to perfection as they could get. Dont expect the live performance to sound like the soundtrack- or you will be suprised and perhaps greatly disappointed.

with my f-ed up computer it was a crappy picture so it made Idina look like someone from Cats!

re: Great WICKED clip

If you get the dvd there is a extra on it of Idina and Kristin rehearsing "For Good." Idina has to stop singing at one point to figure out where to breath. I have been waiting for the jokes.
So my dear you think you can get to Broadway. Well, let me tell you something. Broadway has no room for people like you. Not the Broadway I know. My Broadway takes people like you and eats them up and spits them out. My Broadway is the Broadway of Merman, and Martin, and Fontaine, and if you think you can build yourself up by knocking other people down... ...GOOD LUCK... Seinfeld
