Posted: 3/16/14 at 11:46pmIt's worth it just to be able to see Stephanie D'abruzzo from Avenue Q up close & personal. Totally loved her in that show - can't believe it's been so many years since I saw it at the Vineyard Theater!! (I imagine they will upgrade the sets from what they presented in the workshop presentation of Greed.) And don't forget you can order the $499 super premium seats :) It runs 1 hour 19 minutes, no intermission.

Posted: 3/26/14 at 11:24pmI saw Greed tonight. Very disappointing. I am not sure about what you mean by upgrading the sets, because there were none. They are using the same stage as Gazillion Bubble Show. I don't know how to say it, but it wasn't funny. It wasn't really clever. It was kind of trite. The lyrics were lame, the music was very amateurish. There were some good vocal arrangements but they seemed out of place. It was quite forgettable. All of the performers were very good, including Stephanie D'abruzzo. I did not see her in Avenue Q but I wouldn't have taken her for a Tony Nominee from this show. I am pretty upbeat about theatre, and I go to enjoy the show. The material just wasn't good. It also seemed long at 85 minutes, that ought ot say something.

Posted: 3/27/14 at 5:14amPretty lame, overall. A compendium of songs about the greedy. Little that is fresh or imaginative. It gets tedious quickly. The targets are as expected: mortgage lenders, doctors, , Madoff, Ponzi schemers, etc. A few laughs; some offensive bits. Nondescript music. The cast is able and works very hard.

Posted: 3/27/14 at 6:12amMattbrain - if you want something based on Erich Von Stroheim's movie "Greed", there is the opera "McTeague" by William Bolcomb.

Posted: 3/27/14 at 6:53amI thought the opera (McTeague) was fascinating. This musical doesn't sound like it's based on that story, although Von Stroheim's "Greed" was.

Posted: 3/27/14 at 8:45amGreed is not a musical. It's a review. It's a list of songs. There is no book.

Greed is not a musical. It's a review.
It was written by critics?

^^^ What did you think? I liked it a lot more than I anticipated (after reading this thread). I thought the songs were clever and all had a point. I didn't feel they were trite at all. I mean, how many songs can successfully explain toxic mortgages? Yes, some of the characterizations were stock (the gold digger, the doctor paying off his summer house, etc.). But the performances were professional and worked hard. I think there's at least a little greed in all of us, and this show lets us laugh at ourselves. I would term it more amusing than laugh out loud funny, but it held my interest. I think every MBA student should be exposed to Greed!

Posted: 3/30/14 at 1:07amTo be honest, I wanted to leave 2 songs in. I was bored to tears and as soon as the house lights came up I bolted for door. Not my cup of tea at all. Thank goodness my ticket was cheap.

Posted: 3/30/14 at 12:00pmI was disappointed. Actors were talented but show was preachy and not funny. Only go with super cheap tickets else be greedy and save $$$
