DId you do student rush? How hard was it?

I did student rush. Got there at 9 and was 4th in line. Rush was in the balcony as opposed to front row.
Theatre was VERY full. I think it might have been sold out. Or almost.

How was the reception for Christine and Mary Louise?

Absolutely unreal. When Mary Louise came out at first, everyone was clapping and screaming. It lasted for a while. And since the record was already playing, the audience was clapping over it. Mary Louise and Christine got behind and spent rest of the prologue after the audience had calmed down waiting for the record to come back around to the right spot. The crowd was riled up from the moment Mary Louise stepped out the door.
Christine's was crazier. It happened at the beginning of act 2. She came out and said, "oh hi" and the audience literally stopped the show. People started screaming and clapping and people started standing up and by the end everyone was on their feet screaming for her and she was just standing there in the middle of the stage. After it finally calmed down, she said, "I love you all too." It was incredible.
Also, Scott Frankel and Doug Wright were at the show. That was pretty exciting.

Wonderful, wonderful show. Both of them looked very moved by the reception. Loved the standing O for Christine.
And the dialogue in the beginning got messed up. Christine's voice was heard going "They... they... they..." and Mary Louise said "What do they do?" There were about 10 seconds of silence before Christine was heard again saying "They drive past and take Polaroids..."

Yeah--that all has to be timed correctly lol. But they made it work. So funny.

It was funny. I was wondering "What is she doing back there?"

B3--the piano part is prerecorded so it sounds like an old record. But it all has to be timed for Wilson to start singing and for Ebersole and the orchestra to take over along with the set change.

I wish I could have been there, too. Thanks for sharing this. Ashley, your description made me feel like I was there and put a huge smile on my face. Those two women deserve that kind of reception every single night. (YAY for "the girls," Jerby!!!)

I was there tonight as well! It was pretty darn amazing. As ashley0139 said, when Christine came out at the beginning of Act II and said "Oh, hi" the audience started cheering and immediately leapt to their feet. I was in the orchestra, so that's how it was down there at least. It was fantastic. A full cheer, clapping, with lots of "Woo! Woo!" for almost two minutes! The orchestra section was about 80% full. The seat to the right of me was empty and the seat to the left of me was empty. Christopher Sieber was a few rows in front of me and he was doing a lot of cheering for the ladies! At curtain call, someone in the front row reached up and handed Mary Louise a bouquet of flowers, and then handed Christine a bouquet of flowers, then someone else came down front and reached up to give Christine another bouquet of flowers! The ladies were clearly overwhelmed and quite touched. A beautiful night at GREY GARDENS. Brava!

I'm happy that Christine and Mary Louise both got their well-deserved Tonys. I would love to have been there that night to see them, it sounded amazing.

I was there last night as well. It was incredible! I'd had those tickets for like a month already though, but otherwise I'm sure I couldn't have gotten in, cause the theater was PACKED. And the audience was so energized. Christine Ebersole got a standing ovation just for walking onstage at the beginning of the second act! You could tell the cast was really proud of them, at curtain call they were all beaming and stuff. So cool. I'd never seen the show before, and this only enhanced the performance for me.

I was there too and I've seen it MANY Times and never saw anything like it.
Amazing. And after someone asked Christine, "Does this happen every night?" she asked me how many times I'd seen it and whether this had happened before and I said no!
I loved being there. The energy was electric.
The best time I've had.

I do have to admit that after Christine's performance this past Sunday night at the Tony Awards, I've had a surge of re-interest in the show again. I saw the show twice shortly after it opened on Broadway and I can't wait to see it again in a few weeks.
Last night I took out the DVD of the show and watched most of Act 2 again. Wow! I plan on watching the GREY GARDENS DVD Box Set of the 2 documentaries this weekend.
No one can deny how great this musical adaption really is.

miss pennywise- glad I could put a smile on your face. It was a memorable experience.
I was scared for a minute about the recording, but it worked. If my friend hadn't noticed me kind of freaking out, she said she wouldn't have noticed anything.
