I still think the off-broadway score is much better and i still say that Sarah's performance is leaps and bounds better then Erin's.
The new orchestrations have been recorded as well. The only elements that might be from the Off-Bway CD are elements that exist in the Bway production.
i bet Sarah Gettlefinger (sp?) is pissed.
It's so rare that a transferring off-broadway show gets a new cast recording- and SHE could have been the only little Edie ever recorded, if only this had been true to GG as well. so going out of print and being replaced must be kinda sad for her...
Yes, I'm sure the only reason the show was re-recorded was to spite poor Sara because everybody involved hates her sooooo much.

Girl already got her check. She's moved on.
i see what you mean, but i think a cast recording becomes part of broadway history and a credit for it's perfomers, and to have a cast recording move off-the-shelf for good, and have your role re-recorded must be not too fun for an actor.
that's just me thorwing a thought in. you don't have to be mean: i obviously didn't think it was done to spite Sarah.
I think people are trying to add more drama to the situation than there actually is.
I'm terribly excited about this new recording. I enjoy Gettelfinger's rendition of the songs in the off-Broadway recording but Erin Davie's performance on stage came across as much more on target, her Little Edie was fantastic and her "Daddy's Girl" was one of the highlights of the show for me. I wish they had kept "Body Beautiful Beale" (I like that song and would've liked to hear Davie's rendition) and "Better Fall Out Of Love" (I disliked "Going Places").

If people can find audio recordings of the 1946 Academy Awards and sell them to me on ebay, there's no way that Sara's recordings are ever going to disappear altogether. People who want to hear Sara will be able to hear her. There's nothing to be pissed about. I mean, unless you're the guy sitting in the car next to me while I'm playing the Broadway cast album a little too loud and you really wanted to hear Sara instead of Erin.
Good Lord, I'm actually surprised no one has theorized that this was all Kelsey Fowler's maniacal little scheme. And there's my overtired sarcasm for the night.
I talked with someone connected to the orchestrations and he told me that they re-recorded the whole thing. (nothing from original off-bway cast remains)
As for a new cast recording-I like the idea because I want the version I saw. (Was supposed to see it off-bway but got very sick and was unable to go.) So, I want what I remember seeing.
I doubt this was to make Sarah Gettlefinger angry or hurt or anything else. They re-cast the role, happens all the time. My gawd! They re-record Les Mis how many times? Phantom? It's not to anger or hurt anyone, but to make a profit and perhaps give audiences another take on the score. (As well as the story.)
Once all the Off-Broadway CDs run-out, you'll see them popping-up on eBay for crazy amounts of money.
Regardless of what anyone says, that first recording of GREY GARDENS will always be the World Premiere Recording -- right up there with the Original London Cast Recording of SUNSET BLVD. (with Patti LuPone). Though that version of SUNSET BLVD. is slightly different from the final (and permanent) version of the show (recorded on the American Premiere Recording with Glenn Close), this first recording retains the show as it was first presented, which will remain the same with the Off-Broadway recording of GREY GARDENS. Sarah was part of the ORIGINAL version of the show -- from now until forever.

Twitchell's voice is still in some songs. Fact. And Sara G. is not mad, and they didn't do it to spite her. She is a lovely woman, who is extremely talented. She is on tour with the 3 Sopranos and having a great time. She has moved on and you need to not be mean about her. She did a great job as LE and Erin Davie does a great job as LE, just a different direction. The show was re-recorded because the songs in the show changed. Not to hurt anyone, that is just silly.
Thanks for the pics BrodyFosse, nice to see how Davie compared to Gettelfinger in looks.
I saw the off-Broadway production three times, so I saw Sara (and she was good, but I think Erin is better) but wow - It's so odd to see Sara as Little Edie in those pictures!
