Margo, please take the question mark off of MY FAIR LADY. The show has started pre-production. Maxwell Caulfield was called in to audition for Higgins and he was told the Eliza was a 20 year old unknown.
"But hasn't Ewan been doing it for nigh on a year? That said, I'd fly out there in a heartbeat if he was announced. Jane, too. Wow, I'm absurdly excited!"
I *think* Ewan only did a 6 month contract. He's certainly not there anymore, as it's now Neil Morrisey. Jane left the same time Ewan did.
Everyone I know who saw this liked it, and Jane was meant to be the real highlight. Theres a really nice reuters highlights package on it that I'm sure I saw somewhere...
That's all we need right now- another British revisal...
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"
Sunday in the Park? It ran at a london fringe theatre before xmas, extended, sold out and transfering to the West End this week for a limited run.
I had no idea it was mentioned as transfering to Broadway... Its equal to the current revival of Sweeney in terms of quality. Whether or not you like it is another matter! I think its wonderful. It was great to see Sunday in such a small space and be so intimate with the characters and score.
I found this revival of Guys & Dolls to be rather superb. I agree that Jane Krakowski was the highlight of the night, most of the people I knew went to see the show for Ewan McGregor and walked out of the theatre talking about Jane. I had high hopes the show would get a cast recording in London, but it didn't happen, so if Ms.Krakowski transfers to the Broadway production I hope she gets to record her Adelaide. I wonder what two stars the article was referring to.

If the revivals that arrive are as daring as Sweeney Todd we should be so lucky. And for your information, the revival in London was amazing. The show began in the tiny Donmar Warehouse, so when the audience comes in, they have the stage dressed to look like the DW. Then they blow out into full sized - but still horizontilly influenced - stage sets. Ewan was just okay and the leading lady (I will not even try to spell her name on this forum. The lack of a spelling check already makes me feel dense) was okay, but Jane K and Martin Ellis (Nicely-Nicely) were wonderful. I loved the choreography.
Maxwell Caulfield would be great as 'enry 'iggins! Speaking of Maxwell, his wife Juliet Mills is Tabitha the witch on NBC's "Passions". The other day she was commenting on what she called all the hot muscle bodies in Harmony (town where "Passions" takes place). She said that she hadn't seen a man as hot since "Grease 2" opened.
Maybe Juliet could play Mrs. Pierce ("she's apt to scold").
"I've lost everything! Luis, Marty, my baby with Chris, Chris himself, James. All I ever wanted was love." --Sheridan Crane "Passions"

"Housework is like bad sex. Every time I do it, I swear I'll never do it again til the next time company comes."--"Lulu"
from "Can't Stop The Music"
-----
"When the right doors didn't open for him, he went through the wrong ones" - "Sweet Bird of Youth"

"Passions" is uncancelled! See NBC.com for more info.
I agree that its a great revival however just to politely correct you before someone jumps down your throat!
Its a production by the Donmar but in the West End. It never played their own home theatre, Donmar Warehouse. However it is directed by Michael Grandage and the set as you say has a certain "Donmar" feel to it.
You should have seen the Donmar revival of Grand Hotel the other year! WOW. Sell out as usual
I've seen a high school production years ago, when I was in elementary school. I have no clue on what it's about except for gamblers or something. i only saw it because my sister was making me go because a guy we knew & is really close friends w/ was in it & I liked (well I still like) plays. I remember good choreography (sp?). But no singing. Can anybody tell me what it's about?
ETA: Nevermind, I just went to the site to check out the synopsis.
"Some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, take the moment & making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity." -Gilda Radner
this is funny, my school's doing guys and dolls. i might work! i'd go to see ewan!!!
you say i'm weird! look at everyone you're sitting with! and hey, those guys over there just threw napkins up in the air like they were on something! it's contajous! you can't help it!
It's a great production and completely different to the last Broadway revival. The choreography is supurb with Havana and the new arrangment of 'Sit down you're rockin' the boat' being the best I've ever seen. And if you get Jane K, I may be flying to New York myself to catch it again...
You can never produce or see a classic (like GUYS AND DOLLS) too many times. A different production will always lend something new to it.
One of the reasons for all the acclaim for the 90s Broadway revival was that Jo Loesser held the rights away almost 20 years until she got her "dream production." It opened and New York went crazy.
When you want a crowd to come back to Broadway bring back a few upbeat/popular Broadway classics. Personally, I would love to see Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly, West Side Story, The Secret Garden all have a go round again.
The last Guys and Dolls revival that came to Philly starring Maurice Hines and a racially mixed cast was top notch. It opened on 9/12/01 the night after 9/11. It was a very special evening.
New works are exciting, but I think people love familarity and are more likey to shell out $100 for what they recall enjoying once. Just my opinion.
This is one of my all time favorite shows, so I would be thrilled to have this back on Broadway.
I loooooved the London production, which I saw on my birthday. What a wonderful gift it was.
Ewan McGregor was fine, but Jane Krakowski, Douglas Hodge as Nathan, and Martyn Ellis as Nicely-Nicely were outstanding. 'Sit Down' was my favorite part of that show, although there were many shining moments. The audience was very engaged, very enthusiastic, which made it great fun.
For the guy who said thats all we need another british revival HELLO
YOU ARE SO LUCKY TO GET THIS
This is one hell of a production (and i have a erm pirate copy of the broadway revival and it is 10 times better) I saw this with mr ewan(he was average) but watched it again with nigel harman(actor from uk soap eastenders and former west end player) and he was amazing (jane rocks to) this is a lot darker than the fluffy 92 production and the choreography is amazing every night i get a night of from footloose i would love to keep going back to watch this its sooooooooo good. By the way Ewan wont be doing the american show(he already said on british tv)but you aint missing much if he aint in it
yeah we keep saying here in the not so sunny west end that jackman or connick jr would be good (in fact me and the rest of the west end cast of footloose have started taking bets on who will take the part jackman is the winner)
U know people are saying on this thread "No it`s a classic you can`t revive it to many times!!!" "I hate this idea why can`t we get anything new?" etc.
Well, all of the new stuff we get are based on movies. The only "new" thing we got on b`way is The Drowsy Chaperone!!!! We NEED the classics! We need to get away from movies and get to old fashioned broadway!
The only thing that I`m unhappy that they`re reviving is Les Miserbles. IT LEFT LIKE 2 YEARS AGO!!!!!! COME ON!!!!! Guys and Dolls left 10 years ago! That`s good enough for me! But reviving Les Miserables is like revivig Cats!
I hope Nathan Lane will play Nathan again!
