Do we really need another version of Gypsy?
The score is indeed very strong, but what is there is this show for an audience today.
I'd say rewrite the script completely so they add a little truth to the story and take at most of the songs, then you may have something that an audience of today would be prepared to sit through.

in all honesty, i'd hope they cut little lamb. haha, in my opinion it's a flawless show except for that one damn number. such a clunker.
I enjoy the idea of Emmy Rossum as Louise, I think she'd be great.
I am of the persuasion of Streep as Mama. However, for some reason I don't know if I actually belive that it would happen.
I also vaugley like the idea of mullally, but i think i'd ratehr that be on stage. I say save CZJ for rosie in the new Bye Bye Birdie remake, or else it'll go to someone like j.lo, which would be sad, i feel.

"can Allison Lohman sing?"
If this is correct, then yes.
"At age nine, she landed her first professional role as one of the Von Trapp children (Gretyl) in a local (Palm Desert's McCallum Theater) production of "The Sound of Music" and within two years had graduated to playing the carrot-topped title role in the musical "Annie". At 11, Alison won the Desert Theater League's award for Most Outstanding Actress in a Musical for the title role in "Annie" and by age 17 she had appeared in 12 different productions. As a senior in high school, Alison was an awardee of the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts. While still in high school, Lohman also enjoyed a career as a solo vocalist, appearing with such heavy-hitters as Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope."

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

In my opinion I don't think that its going to work as a movie.
Although I would love to see Liza in the movie.
I wasn't aware that Anne Hathaway was a singer.

If you go to IMDb.com it doesn't look like it's going to be a movie.
http://www.imdb.com/find?s=tt&q=gypsy&x=16&y=7
It would be listed here even if it was only in pre-production.

Streisand is not a very good choice for Mama Rose.
I really enjoyed Tyne Daly in that role.
