I'm moving to the city in two weeks and this is the first show I plan on seeing! I'm so anxious to see Patti's full performance...I've yet to see it (and no, I'm not a Patti fan, but I'm the biggest Gypsy fan!).
I think I'd rather sit on the front row. I'm rather tall...6"1'

Just a warning, even if you ARE that tall, just keep in mind that the stage is about 5 feet high, I'd say. And normal person can extend his/her legs forward while sitting and touch the wall/stage easily.
But again, it's still brilliant seeing the show from front row.

I rushed yesterday (Thursday) got to the theatre at 6pm and got a partial view orchestra seat, row H. Even though its considered "partial view" you really miss nothing but some set design. This show really caters to the center stage area 98% of the time so you don't miss ANY major action or even choreography. The left side seems it would be a bit less desirable for partial view but if you're a decent way back, like I was, it shouldn't matter much over there either.
So yes, you'll have no problem rushing. Have fun!

Posted: 8/15/08 at 9:11amI rushed Gypsy yesterday also. My friends and I got there around noon and the man at the box office showed us the seats available on the seating chart and let us choose. We were in row F and had a great view. PS the Isotoners are gone!

I'm sorry for the slightly dumb nature of this question but I'm clueless with this stuff!
Can you only purchase those front row seats if you have a student id? Or are the available to anyone?
Sorry, I told you it was dumb, but I never rush shows so I have no idea :)

^ I believe it is only with a student ID.
Can anyone give me any advice as to how early I should show up on a Wednesday trying for matinee front row tickets? My dad and I are planning to go in and I want to be there by about 9:30, so it will take getting up quite early and heading into the city.
Am I fool to get up that early to ensure front row on a Wednesday? Is it really a quiet day?

try 4 times last two weeks all good.(weekdays)

10am is fine. (Lucky lehman is close i just cut to buy my tickets.)first row kinda high but you will see great details.
personally do not care the setting (no fancy setting anyway)try to request 105 106 107 108 Patti will stare right at your face... and you will get an apple for sure and part of the letter with the June's signature.

Posted: 8/21/08 at 5:10am^ thanks both of you for your help. I will just make sure I am there a little before 10 but I won't stress out over it. my father has no idea what he's even seeing, but I know he is going to be blown away if we're in the front row.

Hi,
First: sorry for my bad English!
I'm Italian and from 27 August to 3 September I'll be in New York for my very first time!
I'm very interesting to see Gypsy and others new shows as Little Mermaid, Young Frankestein, Xanadu and so on, all the musicals that I couldn't see in London West End yet.
Some London West End Theatres (Wicked-Hairspray-Billy Elliot etc.) offers day-seats in the orchestra first row for 20 or 25 £. when the box office opens in the morning. So my questions are: Is the same for some Broadway musicals?
What price does it have a seat in the front row?
Every shows made this offer or only Gypsy?
Is It only for students? I'm an actor and writer not a student.
I Thank you for the help

gabybon: Gypsy rush is only for students with a valid ID. However, there are some rushes/ways to get cheap tickets if you are not a student.
Check out this website:

That is an up-to-date listing of Broadway's rush/lottery/standing room only policies.

I know the discounts are probably not as good as rush seating, but you can also try the TKTS booth at the Marriot Marquis hotel on 46th St. It's right next to the Richard Rodgers Theater, where In the Heights is playing. You really can't miss the line. I know you can only get tickets day of there, but it is worth a shot. Oh yeah, and it also is not always guaranteed to what will be on the board from one day to the next. I can tell you that popular sellers like In the Heights and The Little Mermaid are never on there.
Here is a link though giving you a hint from the previous week to what was on the boards.

And thanks everyone for this post. I'm going to try Xanadu next Wednesday first, but if that doesn't work out, I'll be sure to go to Gypsy as my back up plan.

#39re: Gypsy rush question
Posted: 8/24/08 at 9:39amWell I went yesterday (saturday) and got a seat in Orch Row F to the side and this was at about 1:30pm, so you should be fine for a Sunday (unless you are after front row).

Posted: 8/24/08 at 12:06pmSo, do I understand correctly that if I have a student ID I can buy one ticket for myself and one for my aunt (who of course doesn't have a student ID) and we could sit next to each other?

Posted: 8/24/08 at 9:40pmI rushed today at about 12:30-ish, and got Row K, all the way to the right. Didn't miss a thing. An amazing show, and a lovely theatre. One of my favorites.
