Sharon Brown took over for Lillias White near the end of it's run at the Ambassador theatre,I have the Playbill.ibdb does not list her but I know what I saw,& I remember being pissed that I wasn't going to see Lillias again but was pleasantly surprise by Ms Cason.

They did a PBS version of The Old Settler for PBS, also directed by Allen.

Debbie Allen also directed Phylicia Rashad in a TV-movie version of "Pollyanna" in the late eighties (it was called "Polly" and was reset in the south during the fifties...Rudy from "The Cosby Show" played Pollyana).

That revival cast was wonderful.
I don't remember the names and wonder if any of them became very famous.
Actually, I remember Arnetia Walker. Forgive the spelling. She went on to do films and tv.

Alysa Gyse(Deena Jones) went on to play Kinu on A Different World (as someone stated before was directed by Debbie Allen).

If there ever were a black version of Gypsy, my choice for Rose would be Queen Latifah or Lillias White!
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.
