HA’PENNY BRIDGE
CANCELS ENGAGEMENT
AT THE GOLDEN GATE THEATRE
Via-Talkinbroadway:
San Francisco, CA (February 21, 200…Narina Entertainment Ltd., the producer of the musical production HA’PENNY BRIDGE, announced today that the date for San Francisco has been cancelled.
“It is with regret that we will be canceling the scheduled engagement of HA’PENNY BRIDGE, but as producers, we feel that the production is not yet ready,” stated Garrett McGuckian, producer of HA’PENNY BRIDGE.
As the pre-eminent theatrical entertainment company in San Francisco, SHN has a commitment to present not only the best that Broadway has to offer, but also new work on its way to Broadway. In the last few years, this effort has resulted in San Francisco being one of the only cities in the United States to host many new shows and world premieres. The ebb and flow of creating a brand new production may result in schedule changes, which are inherent risks associated with presenting new creative projects.
HA’PENNY BRIDGE was to be presented as part of the 2007-2008 Best of Broadway series. Best of Broadway subscribers are receiving notification of this change. For further updates on the Best of Broadway series, please visit www.shnsf.com

They say they're trying to find a replacement show but I doubt that they are going to be able to find one, and if they do watch that get cancelled too.
Well, I bet they can't stop High School the Musical but this is sad news. Though if it isn't ready, what can you do?
Now what are we going to get!?! What a crazy season.
Wow I was looking forward to seeing this in Toronto.
I'm surprised as the show was announced a year ago...you'd think they would have had time.
WOW, it was announced a year ago in Toronto? Wow, we just recently got the announcement and now we got a cancellation!
Oh, well, hope that we get something cool!
Here's an article in today's Toronto Star about the cancellation:
"We had been trying to create a big Broadway-style production," explained McGuckian in a Toronto publicist's office, "but we realized it just wasn't going to be possible.

Thanks for the articles. Sad they couldn't find Canadian venues other than Mirvish or other American ones? Of course they are way behind the typical season schedules for the coming year.
I feel terrible for the cast and crew. They did get paid but probably turned down other work. I wondered though why go to Broadway rather then London? Good luck finding a spot there. How did they miss the line?
It is kind of sad though, knowing so many of our older Theaters have grown dark as well. We really do need more developers to take an interest in big Theatre. It would probably too, make it more competitive and less expensive.
This is my only complaint about shows sitting down for years on end. It really clogs up the Theatres and prevents new productions from getting a chance to put on a show.
Yikes... Although, I heard whisperings from people in the Toronto industry that the show itself was pretty rough. Actors had been dropping out over the last few monthes.
That's a shame.

They ran outta dough, 2 city tour aint going to make you money. I think that is why it was cancelled.
