It's not a matter of whether the students SHOULD see it...it's a matter of whether the school should BACK it. AND a matter of family opinions. Most parents will blindly give permission to whatever a school offers....and then be upset (justified or not) AFTER the fact.
I often encourage my students to go see things that I would not BRING them to as a school official.
I would think the drug use and the sex situations might be more to question (from a school setting) than the one dimly lit and tasteful nude scene.
I've personally taken a few of my students to see Spring Awakening -- but as a friend of the family and with parental permission -- but would never have taken my entire drama club. I will probably offer to do the same thing for HAIR. But it won't be on one of our trips.
Next week AUGUST is one of the shows my HS drama club chose to see....in order to get an "OK" from my admin, I had to send home letters to explaing the mature nature of the language and the situations giving the family the oppoortunity the pull out of the trip. Not a single one did.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
