My partner and I will arrive in NYC at noon on October 10 to leave early morning on October 14.
We have booked FINIAN'S RAINBOW for 8pm Sat. 10th and SOUTH PACIFIC for 7pm Tue. 13th.
Firstly, HAIR appears to be playing EVERY Sunday throughout October EXCEPT the Sunday we are there, which is the 11th. Does anyone know why this is? Our flight arrives at La Guardia at noon from Chicago. What are the chances of getting out of the airport, to the hotel to drop our bags, and to the theatre for the 2pm performance of HAIR? I'd say zero, but crazier things have happened. I guess we'd have to factor in the plane being delayed.
Secondly, is Cheyenne Jackson definitely onboard for FINIAN'S RAINBOW? I didn't get to see XANADU, and I really want to see him perform.
My partner and I are coming from Sydney, and our dates are not flexible. Thanks in advance.
Hair canceled the October 11th performance to take part of the National Equality March.
Yes, Cheyenne is confirmed for FR.
And since you are from Australia...the Nat'l Equality March is in Washington DC. It is to support the legalization of Gay Marriage. The producers of Hair, made a big deal about giving the entire cast time off so they could all attend the march.
I'm sorry to say but I think your chances are pretty slim to make it to the theater on time. You 'might' make it if you cut out stopping at the hotel....but you only need one thing to be out of whack and you wouldn't make that either. Even if you LAND on time, it'll be more than 1/2 hour before you are off the plan and get your bags.
However....there might me air travelers here that could give you hope.

I'm in no ways sure of this, but isn't there an extra performance of HAIR at some time to cover for the missed scheduled performance?
Yes, they added a Monday October 5 @ 8pm performance that week.

As someone who travels to NY frequently and loves to see shows, I can tell you with total confidence that you can make it. First - if it's at all possible, don't check bags. Second, try to get your seat more toward the front of the plane. Third, be focused when you get off the plane. If you need to check your bags, maybe have your partner wait in the taxi line while you pick up your bags and that way you can be at the front of the taxi line. On a Sunday, it will only take about 25 minutes to get to your hotel. You can drop your bags off at the front desk, grab a cab and go. In fact, unless your plane is really late, I bet you would make it to the theater between 1:15 and 1:30.
One time I made it to an 8 pm performance from a plane that landed at 7:15, so it can defintely be done.

^ omg that's so intense. haha I would have a heart attack from the stress before I even made it to the theater if I attempted that.
wow lol props to you bwayfascination. that's impressive timing. I think you can make it, just listen to what he said about getting around. hope it works out for you!
broadwayfascination: that really was very fascinating. I'm gonna save those instructions, for anyone else who may need them ever <3

Don't bother stopping at the hotel. Go straight to the theatre and check your bags at the coatcheck. Why waste time when you don't have any?
Hello fellow Broadway lovers,
Thanks for all the feedback. I have cancelled our tickets for FINIAN'S on the Saturday at 8pm. That now leaves us free to see HAIR. We are going to try for lottery seats at $26.50. Are box seats at the Al Hirschfield good?
We will try and see FINIAN'S on the next day at 3pm. I'm not as bothered now since Cheyenne isn't the main attraction. We will toss up between FINIAN'S, WWS or SHREK. If we can get lottery seats for SHREK, that might be the go.
Our bags will be large as we're travelling across the US for 2 weeks. I don't think the theatre staff could cater for massive luggage!
Cheyenne IS in Finian's. Unless something just changed in the last day or two. Did I miss something???
I didn't suggest Cheyenne isn't in it. He's not the central focus (or so I've been told), so I should probably wait until we can see a show where he's the big focus and gets lots of stage time.
Ah....I see! I misunderstood!
Good luck have fun in NYC!!!
How were you able to cancel your Finian's Rainbow tickets if there are no refunds?
I would suggest trying to buy tickets to Hair in advance. I've heard the lotto is difficult to win. They have a discount currently. I have a feeling they will have a similar discount for the date you want within the next month or so.
If you are on a tight budget, Hair has $34 rear mezzanine seats.
yes if it's possible buy tickets for Hair.
If my partner and I both put our names down, we'll have double the chance to get lottery tickets for HAIR. After all, SOMEBODY has to win them :)
Back in December 2006, we managed to get lottery seats for HAIRSPRAY after the lottery entry had closed, because we got our times wrong.
How did I get a refund on FINIAN'S? I asked them via email. Maybe they took pity on a traveller abroad...

Just Saying that Hairspray was one of the easiest lotteries on Broadway to win. 8 out of the 9 times I did Lotto I won. Hair is NOT like that. This past Thursday my cousins were in from out of town all togeather their were nine of us we all put our names into Hair lotto and only one got called.

Flights that depart and arrive from the NYC area airports are notoriously late. Sorry, but that's been my experience.

It seems lately that if you are not the first flight in/out of LaGuardia these days you are going to end up delayed. I can't remember the last time I was on time in that airport.

Really? If I remember correctly, when I went to New York at the end of March this year, I believe my flight was about a half-hour early. I have trouble remembering, though, it could have been a half-hour late. I just know that the flight was from Chicago in good weather and I wasn't able to finish watching the movie "Twilight" on the plane.
The HAIR lotto seats are great, but I strongly urge you to purchase them ahead of time.

U can't get lotto seats ahead of time that's why it's called a LOTTO
You can however get the $37 rear mezz seats in advance which I would reccomend(sp) doing.
Or if you don't mind the possiblity of standing you could buy SRO when the BO opens and then if u win lotto sell the SRO.

Yeah, I also recommend buying Hair tickets in advanced if you can.
Recently on a weekday I had nine people playing lotto for me, and NONE of us won.
