re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

anyone know when tickets go on sale/ or when an official annoucement is released?
#27

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

Tickets will go on sale when each venue decides to sell them, The Mayflower, for example, are opening ticket sales to members only on 3rd August and to everyone on 10th August, but I imagine each venue will decide on it themselves!

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

oh how i've been dying to say something for AGES about this! like SADM2 i knew they were doing... they looked at all the theatres in manchester and thats when i found out!

they wont close the london production... i'll be surprised if they do. it makes them way too much money to close it. and having 2 productions running will make them more!

casting is also well under way for the tour... ball is announced... theyre currently casting the leads as a couple of my friends are in the running. and they're supposedly holding open auditions for the ensemble too like they do in london.

And whoever mentioned sister act transferring to the shaftesbury they're a fool... the sets would not fit. and they are not going to make new sets for it... if anything they'd just close it!

bring on hairspray i say.... atleast there's something good going to be touring aswell as being in london!

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

It has to be said its great to see another major touring show (Sound of Music being the other) recognising the times and making tickets more affordable. With the early booking offer (monday - thursday) top price tickets mid week are £32 each! (in Southampton)

Perfect. That will make the whole of my Easter break seeing it in Cardiff. (Gonna bring my mother along this time!)

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

Mr Ball is to share the role on tour playing only certain cities.
This is what Peter Kay did when the The Producers toured.
My guess is that by the time the tour opens it will be Mr Conley who will share it and by that time London will be due a cast change. Conley is loved by audiences and they will flock as much to him as Mr Ball.

Mr Ball, certainly loves his frock.

People on here were praising his dedication for doing such a long run in the West End, well he loves it so much, he's taking the show on tour.

Im sure he negotiated a nice little handbag filler too!

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

Well id imagine now being one of the producers makes touring a much more attractive option.

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

If that is the final tour detail, I am suprised it is not sitting down in its chosen venues. Also would expect this tour to go to Birmingham, Plymouth, Sunderland and blown away its not doing Edinburgh!!!!

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

The press release said other venues to be announced later.

Same as Les Mis and Sound of Music tours, only initial venues have been confirmed

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

MB is Edna in EDINBURGH from 14 December 2010 - 8 January 2011 (Edinburgh Playhouse).

Good for him and the show I say, and I think producer or not, he'd have done the tour regardless anyway.

Perhaps Birmingham, Plymouth and Sunderland will follow on from there.

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

I have to say how massivley annoyed i am that this is going to our sister theatre the Opera House instead of the Palace.

Im prob gonna get shot for saying this but f**k it. The talks are still ongoing to turn the brilliant Palace Theatre in Manchester in to an opera house, when we lose shows like this to our sister theatre and keep taking the crap shows like we have been then its just giving the council/live nation etc more of an excuse to do so.

The Palace has always taken the major tours, better marquee space, bigger theatre, more exposure etc, the fact that this and from what ive been told La Cage will go to the Opera House is getting annoying.

I for one do not want to see the Palace become a place of the past when its turned in to an opera venue, we dont want it, we dont need it and we dont want to pay for it, but unless something huge is coming in to the Palace Theatre next year i would not blame the council etc

re: HAIRSPRAY IS TOURING THE UK

Well said, i completely agree turning the palace into a Opera House is a ridiculous idea, and doesn't even seem doable space wise. if Manchester does need a Opera House then they should build one not take away valuble theatre space. Personally i don't think Manchester would support Opera on the level they are talking about, but i could be wrong.
